In an attempt to emulate the great feats of the MPR, David Pipe trained legend that was JUNIOR (Royal Ascot & Cheltenham Festival winner) and the outstanding Juvenile hurdler Legal History, who sauntered home for the MPR/Pipe team at Ascot by many lengths, our latest National Hunt acquisition is this gorgeous, dark bay (almost black) filly, by the up-and-coming, Network (sire of Sprinter Sacre) sire Voiladenuo. Furthermore, she is 'French Owner Premiums' qualified.
She’s from a very precocious French family, where both her dam and her dam’s best progeny excelled between the ages of 3yo and 5yo. The dam’s best progeny is a horse called MAGNETO, who won 3 times over hurdles BEFORE he was 4, including a Grade 3 hurdle at Auteuil (the Cheltenham of France) earning a mark of around 152 to boot. He later ran in Grade 1 races and was just short of top class. He's subsequently turned his hand to chasing, and he’s now an Auteuil winner over both codes, hurdles and fences.
David is prepping her for the BRAND NEW ‘Junior National Hunt Development Races’ that have been instigated by the BHA to offer fresh opportunities for unraced 3yo’s. Such races have existed for years in France and this filly looks a perfect fit for them, almost certainly advantaged by her French genes. Limited to unraced horses, with no Flat experience, the Junior Hurdles Development race series looks a fabulous new initiative that we’re delighted to be able to support. Read more here: https://www.thetba.co.uk/2021/11/04/bha-confirms-introduction-of-junior-national-hunt-development-hurdle-races-from-autumn-2022/ and see another Racing Post story about them in the gallery.
Our filly looks cherry ripe for them. She comes in on a very sensible budget of €55,000 at the February Arqana Sale, and given her outstanding black type pedigree, you’d imagine she’d retain a fair residual value, for the paddocks, regardless of her achievements on the track.
Here's our National Hunt Manager Tom, speaking to the TBA about the programme:
You’d very much hope that we could use the Juvenile Series as a stepping stone to one, or more, of the Spring Festivals 2023 and that we’d be able to enjoy racing this filly/mare over hurdles and fences throughout 2023/2024 and beyond.
If she’s anywhere like as good as our female DUAL GRADE 1 winning superstar MARIE’S ROCK, who we purchased, unraced, for €35,000 then we’d be delighted. Let’s hope that this filly can fulfil more Nicholashayne dreams and create many more lasting, festival, memories for the David Pipe and MPR team.
Here she is at Pond House, with David's narration and there's also a video in the gallery showing her arrive at her new stable.
Training Update (11th May): We saw her at our owners stable visit recently and she is looking very well. The plan will be to complete the education part of her training over the next couple of months, before giving her a quick turn out during the late Spring where she can get the good grass into her and just have a let down after what would have been a busy couple of months for her. She will then be back into the yard in the middle of the Summer so that we can look at getting her race fit ahead of the new 'Junior National Hunt Development Races' programme, mentioned above.
Here's an update from David:
