WINNER 40 OF 2022: DOGON, trained by Dr Richard Newland and ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies: 'The Free Tips Daily On attheraces.com Handicap Chase' over 2m 2f at Fontwell.
A break of 235 days ahead of his stable debut, he looked very well in the paddock. Sam had him to the fore at the start and as the flag went down, his intentions were clear, push on and try and make all! They were 8 lengths ahead in the home turn and then his lead was reduced 2 from home to just 1 length at the last fence. He faced a strong challenge, but Sam drove him to the line and he held on to win by 1/2 a length.

Timeform say: "Had dropped to his last winning mark and, despite proving very easy to back just before the off, took full advantage to make a winning start for this new yard after 8 months off; made all, went with zest, clear early, looked in control home turn, reduced advantage when faltered between last 2, all out to hold on.”
Sam said in his Sky Sports Racing interview with Luke Harvey: "He did well and was mad up for it! His attitude was fantastic and he was very slick over the fences. Dr Newland had him good and fit and I enjoyed that.”

Syndicate manager Tom says: "Well done to his owners. It was great to be at the track with some of his owners yesterday, watching him enjoy himself and win like that. Dr Newland was stood next to me as he crossed the line, so I was able to congratulate him on Dogon's stable debut win. Sam gave him a peach of a ride and so it is a fantastic team performance. He fought all the way to the line and was never headed. I like the photo of him after the race (see the gallery) looking rather proud of himself! I'm glad he has been rewarded, being our 40th winner of the year, as he has come so close in his last few starts.”
