Winner 108 of 2026: ROOS RACING ROCKET, trained by Charlie Johnston and ridden by Jason Hart. The ‘David Cole Memorial EBF Novice Stakes’ over 1m at Bath.

 Our gorgeous son of Dawn Approach, a particular interestingly bred individual was due to make his debut nowhere else than at the Rowley Mile a week ago. A small stone bruise on the morning of his race left us no choice but to make him a non-runner, but his initial entry shows that Charlie always liked him who filled us with confidence that we have a smart 2-year-old on our hands.

The perfectly named Roos Racing Rocket, drawn in stall 1 of the 12 runners, got off to a great start after a brief stumble under Jason Hart, who was happy to lead the field over the mile in soft ground.

Jason managed to set sensible fractions despite being slightly pestered for the lead. But our son of Dawn Approach was travelling ever so well when turning for home and with three furlongs left to go he established a three lengths lead. He showed a fantastic attitude and really overcame some inexperience in the closing stages but kept on galloping and won convincingly against the fast closing eventual second placed horse.

Timeform rated his debut victory with a 73+: "By Dawn Approach: fifth foal: half-brother to 3 winners, including useful 2-y-o 5f/6f winner Dawn Charger (by Soldier's Call) and useful 2-y-o 8.3f winner (stays 1¾m) Serious Challenge (by Fracas): dam unraced) knew his job very well and made a winning start, never looking like getting caught; soon led, travelled well, shaken up 2f out, unchallenged; for all his professionalism on the day, he's still entitled to progress."
