A standout colt, one of our naps of the Sale!

The relatively nascent, Godolphin stallion Ghaiyyath - the winner of the Juddmonte International, Coral Eclipse and Coronation Cup in his world-class, stellar career - is fast tracking himself to the upper echelons of the stallion roster, with the likes of Group 1 winners Opera Ballo & Observer and Group 1 performer Gethin to name but three of his already illustrious progeny. He also has plenty of fiercely talented performers just below that level, which is a fantastic achievement given his eldest progeny are only 4 years old.

In a year or two’s time, we’re pretty sure he’ll be talked about in a similar vein to Wootton Bassett, Night Of Thunder and Dubawi given his current trajectory. 

So, to secure the services of one of his progeny represents such a privilege at this stage and one we may not be able to afford in a year or so’s time. We’ve had to dig deep at £82,000 (before commissions and sales race entry fees) but given his pedigree, where the dam has already produced 84 & 82 rated performers by much much lesser sires, this stallion upgrade could just point to the sky being the limit of this fabulous colt’s prowess.

As a side note, when securing this colt’s services, during the bidding process at the sale, standing with Richard Hannon and Ross Doyle, the MPR team, as the bidding went to £75,000, claimed “we’re out”, thinking £75,000 was just about enough for us.

However, such was Richard’s resolution and determination to buy the horse, he said, “well, I’m going to carry on, I love this horse,” i.e. he was then buying the horse ‘on spec’ himself. Richard rarely gives £82,000 ‘on spec’.  

Given the hammer price of £82,000 was only a bid or two above the MPR team’s perceived ceiling for the horse, it took the MPR team, still standing next to Richard, next to no time to realise the error of our ways. The son of Ghaiyyath was one of our naps of the sale, so we shook hands and agreed to take the horse, moments after the hammer went down at his hammer price of £82,000.

The fact that Richard carried on his pursuit of this horse on spec, even once the obvious owners there present had sidestepped at £75,000, speaks volumes; it’s fair to say. 

He’s Chesham qualified - Richard finished 3rd in the race earlier this year with the daughter of Ghaiyyath APEROLL, who is now a listed winner and has won 2 of her 3 stars and will probably spend most of her life in pattern company from here on in - This colt, of course, qualifies for all the £25,000 bonus races for graduates of this sale alone, and of course we’d have one eye on the Harry’s Half Million race too, at York next August - he’s not a natural contender for that race, given his pedigree, however it’s possible that his potential ‘class’ could get him through. He’s sure to stay a mile in time - many many many of the very best Hannon inmates have proven to be milers - Canford Cliffs, Rosallion, Toronado, Toormore, Don’t Forget Me etc, etc to name but a few - so there’s very little shame in that.

He possesses the size, looks, prowess and movement of a high-class animal with all the attributes of one of the standouts of the entire sale. His photos and sale video are clear examples of precisely that & we’d hope you would agree.

He’s unlikely to debut at Windsor in April over 5f, as many a Hannon horse would; it’s much more likely Newbury in May over 6f, in all probability, before stepping up in trip as the season progresses. Best guess at his ultimate racing distance would be a mile - that’s a question that was often asked - so he should fit in well alongside many a past and present Richard Hannon superstar. 

We think he’ll prove popular amongst our owners, and we can’t wait to see him hit the track, hopefully next Spring.
