In recent years, Nicky Henderson has plundered many a Grade 1 prize over hurdles and fences. His hurdling star has been the unbelievably consistent BUVEUR D’AIR no less, in winning 2 Cheltenham Champion hurdles. Buveur D'Air is by the, until recently, unheard of young sire CRILLON, who stands in France. Here is his profile page: http://harasdelabaie.com/effectives/article/6/crillon-ps/. Buveur D’Air’s exploits have catapulted Crillon to the very highest echelons of the NH stallion ranks, so you can imagine our delight to secure his fabulous daughter, from the Premier NH sale of the year, the *Tattersalls Ireland Derby Store Sale.
This elegant, yet strong, filly was our “walk of the week,” meaning she was the individual of all the 435 lots, whose movement impressed us the most. Given her pedigree, her looks and her gait, we were determined to give her our very best shot, at bringing her home to Seven Barrows for Nicky to train, hopefully into another Crillon Champion. Our filly hails from a fabulous family and if she’s anything even close to her close relation, Buveur D’Air, we should be in for some very exciting times on the track, in Bumpers, in the early part of 2020 and beyond, when she heads over hurdles and ultimately fences, as she matures and gains experience.
Our three, most recent “Store purchases” for Nicky Henderson to train, from Ireland, have all won on their debut for us (El Kaldoun, Marie’s Rock and Father John) and we see no reason why this wonderfully bred filly won’t continue in that vein. Furthermore, being a filly, any successes on the track she may experience, especially if they occur in black type races, will secure an excellent residual value for her, as a broodmare, once her racing days are over.
She’s a very exciting recruit to the MPR National Hunt ranks for the 2019/2020 season and beyond.
Season preview update: Nicky has published his 2019/20 Season Previews for all of his Seven Barrows inmates. Read what he says about this filly in the gallery. Whilst this filly was being broken in, our National Hunt manager Tom was told: "Your Crillon is the nicest store filly we have ever dealt with." High praise indeed! She also gets a mention in Nicky's November 'Racing Post Stable Tour' and we have also added a screenshot of that in the gallery.
Here she is on the Seven Barrows gallops at the end of March:
