Winner 65 of 2025: SOCIETY MAN, trained by Charlie Johnston, and ridden by Jack Callan (5). The “Ted Palmer Memorial Handicap” over 7f at Kempton.

A huge well done to the owners of Society Man, who have been rewarded for their patience. It has been a challenging year for our son of Cracksman, who suffered a small injury at the beginning of the year and didn’t enjoy the underfoot conditions on his last two starts.

Back on the All Weather, he looked back to his old best, under a confident ride from apprentice Jack Callan. After a good start, he sat midfield, travelling strongly in the 14-runner field.

Jack switched left inside the final furlong, and Society Man responded gamely to lead towards the finish, winning by a neck. A well-deserved victory for our 5-year-old, who looks to relish the All Weather, and could be a fun horse to be involved with over the next few months.

Timeform rated his victory with a p96+, saying:

"Returned to form from out of the blue, this kind of performance easily explained if not predicted, 6 lb lower than when second on his stable debut, with a good-value 5-lb claimer on board, too; mid-field, ridden when switched under 2f out, quickened to lead close home."

"Well done on his win! I have to say that that was a big relief, given the level of form that he'd shown since he's been running in our colours. As we said beforehand, we'd given him every chance to show some form, and the horse and Jack duly delivered. It was a confident ride from Jack, and if anything, he was probably disadvantaged in his track position, as the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th were all either prominent or at the front."
