Besides her pedigree suggesting she might stay much further and probably be less precocious, our daughter of Cracksman has always impressed Rod at home on the gallops, and we were delighted to be able to add her to our string of 2-year-old fillies.

Bayside did build on her eye-catching debut run at Bath, which saw her stay on strongly and finish a close third. Lewis made good use of her experience, sitting just off the leaders, and once he asked for stronger efforts, she powered home strongly, staying on well, winning by 3/4 of a length.

An impressive victory, very well done to all her owners.

Timeform rated her maiden victory with a 68, saying: "Put her experience to good use against a field of newcomers, despite being easy to back in the wake of the support for the favourite; handy, challenged 1f out, edged ahead final 100 yds; will stay 6f and remains open to improvement."
