A Regal Performance By The Prince.

WINNER 107 OF 2022: PRINCE OF PILLO, trained by Keith Dalgleish and ridden by Callum Rodriguez: The Listed 'British EBF Stallions Harry Rosebery Stakes' over 5f at the Ayr Western Meeting.
After winning the Ripon Hornblower Conditions Stakes in August, he was unlucky last time out to have been bumped badly in the Group 2 Flying Childers. He still stayed on to take 4th and lined up here 5 days later, in a race we won with Clem Fandango in 2016.
Drawn in 10 towards the stands side, he dwelt a little at the start. But his big stride soon took him to the fore and Calllum steered him towards the centre of the track. He was travelling strongly and began to pull away at the 1f marker. It looked all over as nothing could get to him from in behind and he kept on well, to win comfortably, by a superb 3 and a 1/2 lengths.
"There's only 1 winner here, a 3rd career success for Prince Of Pillo, who wins very smartly." Watch the full race replay here: https://www.racingtv.com/videos/watch/horse_racing_replays/410474-british-ebf-stallions-harry-rosebery-stakes-listed-1
Timeform rated it as a career best 107 saying: "Whose last run is easily excused, resumed winning ways after just 5 days off with a borderline smart effort, mightily impressive in both the way he tanked through the race (soon prominent despite being the slowest from the stalls) and in how he lengthened clear when asked; dwelt, prominent, travelled strongly, led before halfway, quickened clear over 1f out, impressive; he'll presumably be back in higher grade next time.”
Keith was interviewed by Racing TV after the race:
The Racing Post made him their 'Star Performer' of the day, saying: 'Star performer: Prince Of Pillo (2.35) produced a dominant display in the 2yo Listed race.'

Syndicate manager Mike says: "I am delighted to have been there yesterday and our celebrations went into the night! Well done to Keith and his team, he looks an exciting colt for his owners. Congratulations to them all. Keith mentioned the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes at Newmarket and that looks a good fit, but I will liaise with him about race options and see what we can find to enhance his CV even more, but to win 3 races from 4 starts isn't bad! Our 2 year-olds have been on fire this year, he is the 11th to have earned black type."
We love this photo of him having a lie in the morning after at Keith's yard!
