*From the Goffs Premier Yearling Sale 2021. The sale where we purchased our Group 1 winner and Champion European 2yo 2013; TOORMORE (£36,000), Group 2 winner VENTURA TORMENTA and dual Group 2 winner KOOL KOMPANY (£40,000)*
SIRE: Pivotal, who sadly passed away in November. Read his former trainer, Sir Mark Prescott's tribute to him here: https://www.racingpost.com/news/latest/he-got-faster-and-faster-sir-mark-prescott-remembers-sprinting-ace-pivotal/523036 and the Racing Post Bloodstock story: https://www.racingpost.com/bloodstock/pivotal/weve-been-so-blessed-to-have-been-part-of-his-life-pivotal-dies-aged-28/522872
DAM: Dusty Red (Teofilo)
TRAINER: Mark Johnston
Walk and Profile Video:
Pivotal needs no introduction as a racehorse (to those old enough to remember his Group 1 winning exploits) and certainly not as an all-conquering stallion and broodmare sire. Retired from stud duties now, our colt hails from the penultimate crop of the famous sire. His progeny headliners include ADDEYYB, AFRICAN STORY, FARHH and SARISKA
Mark Johnston is renowned, traditionally, for producing horses that progress with age and distance; horses who are better at 3yo than 2yo and who excel at distances of 12f and beyond. That’s precisely what we believe we have purchased in this fabulously well-bred colt. He’s a tall individual who has plenty of size, and he’s quite long in stature which also suggests he will improve and mature into his frame as he gets older.
He is at pre-training now (see the update below) and we’ll send him into Mark’s Middleham yard in February, just in case he is the sort of horse who belies his genes and wishes to have a fulsome 2yo career.
He’s a close relation to a top-class handicap hurdler and he ought to retain significant residual value at the end of his Flat career. He ticks plenty of boxes for us and beyond his time with MPR.

Training update (April 4th): Charlie reports that he had his first gallop over 3 furlongs, with a Mastercraftsman Colt and he went the better of the two horses. PJ McDonald rode him and was pleased with how well he moved for such a big horse. Charlie is very happy with his progress and how he coped with his first piece of faster work. He'll continue in his normal daily cantering routine and Charlie will looks to give him in his next gallop in around two weeks' time. He's a really is an imposing colt and has a good size about him - looking a typical Mark Johnston 3-year-old type, who we are thrilled we bought!
Here he is on the gallops at our owners stable visit:
