A Tremendous TREBLE!

Sat 04 Sep 2021

WINNER 76 OF 2021: FAIRMAC, trained by Mark Johnston and ridden by Franny Norton: 'The Racing TV Handicap' over 1m 2f at Haydock .

The popular grey has been running so consistently well for his owners; 16 races to date and 13 times in the winners' enclosure! Taking a keen hold, he led, but was headed by a horse even keener! Franny allowed him to settle in behind and then as the 2f pole approached he started to look dangerous, as Franny plotted his course home. Chasing the leader in the final furlong , he went on to take the lead and kept on well, to win by 1 1/2 lengths. A 3rd career win and his social media fan club were delighted, as were his owners, on the winners' podium (see the gallery.)

Timeform rated it as A CAREER BEST 92, saying: "Strong in the betting after just another 6 days off, found a similar level of performance to at Newmarket see him go one better, settling better having not been asked to lead this time; settled in touch, shaken up 3f out, switched inside leaders under 2f out, led approaching last ½f, stayed on”

Syndicate manager Mike says: "Well done on his win! I thought it was a particularly good ride from Franny. He broke well, but he was settled well enough to let the keen going Camelot Tales stride on and then when Miramichi pulled alongside he switched him out 3 horse’s widths away from him to stop Fairmac getting lit up. It took him wider around the bend but it was a good piece of horsemanship that paid off in the end. The leaders committed for home pretty early in the straight but a slightly more patient effort from Franny saw him prevail in the final furlong. It was good to see Fairmac get his head in front and he deserved that after the number of decent efforts this year.”

WINNER 77 OF 2021: LEXINGTON WARFARE, trained by Richard Fahey and ridden by Barry McHugh: 'The However You Play, Play Bet UK Handicap (Div 2)' over 7f at Newcastle.

Back down in trip, he was drawn on the outer and shortly after the start, he was at the back of the field, by about 2 lengths. Barry wasn't fazed though and let them get on with it upfront. At the 2 pole, he really got going, switching to the inner and made good headway. He ran on well inside the final furlong to to win by a length.

Timeform rated it as t71, saying: "Back on all-weather, came out on top from easing mark, his proven stamina for further coming into play given a strong pace back at 7f; in rear, outpaced, headway to lead well inside final 1f, stayed on, helped by being held up in a strongly-run race.”

Syndicate manager Tom says: "Well that was just brilliant to see him get his head back in front! I must admit, I thought I’d made a huge error coming back to 7f after a couple of furlongs but he stuck to his task well under a very, very good ride from Barry. He just went out of camera shot for a few seconds, I said to myself if we stick our head back in the frame now we’ll win this, and almost immediately his nose appeared and from then on, you were always confident that he would pick them up knowing we stay the mile well. Well done to everyone who kept the faith in him, you deserved that win yesterday.”

WINNER 78 OF 2021: BOOKMARK, trained by Michael Bell and ridden by Rowan Scott: 'The Happy Belated 50th Birthday Andrew Askin Maiden Handicap' over 1m 2f at Pontefract

Slowly into stride, she settled at the back of the field. Coming around the home bend, Rowan took her to the outer as she started to pick them off. Travelling smoothly, she took over the lead over 2f out and went clear, to win easily by an a-m-a-z-i-n-g 17 lengths!

"Bookmark has absolutely taken them apart tonight."  Watch the full race replay here: https://www.racingtv.com/videos/watch/horse_racing_replays/352816-happy-belated-50th-birthday-andrew-askin-maiden-handicap-5

Timeform rated it as A CAREER BEST 85 saying: "Showed improved form to go one better than at Chelmsford last time in emphatic style, helping continue a fine run of form for her yard; awkward leaving stalls, waited with, smooth headway out wide approaching home turn, led soon after, went clear over 1f out, eased."

Syndicate manager Tim says: "Well, that was mightly impressive! Michael was right to recommend we buy this filly and I must say a well done to her new owners for coming on board with our quest. She is most certainly worth more than the 12,000 we paid for her. The handicapper will have a good look at that performance, but she is in again on Friday at Chester, where she will have a penalty, so I will discuss with Michael about that.

An amazing day for us and our owners yesterday, with some owning shares in more than one winner! That's what its all about and we are proud to give these champagne moments. Our next winner, will be our 1,250th since we were formed - reason to celebrate again!"
