Outstanding Value for Money

In finishing the second half of ‘the race’ in 7th place, out of all 250+ contenders, to pick him up for €52,000, we believe, represents an outstanding value for money purchase, in light of what many horses were making at this sale, and, indeed, across all the Breeze Ups sales this season.

He was catching the leaders of the ‘timed race’ hand over fist in the final 200 yards, and we strongly suspect he’d have finished closer still, should the ‘race’ be extended further than the actual 2.3f of its test.

We’re quite big fans of Calyx, a son of the great Kingman. Calyx provided us with our Group 2 Norfolk Stakes runner-up Malc, and we recently purchased the Guineas Breeze-Up Sale topper, a daughter of the great Calyx for 155,000 gns. He’s a sire that’s very much on the up with his eldest progeny, still only 4yos.

Our catalogue notes, as he breezed in front of us, read “looked quick”, and he most certainly has served it up to the leaders in order to finish so high up the pecking order.

Another fantastic bonus, he qualifies for a €10,000 'IRE' bonus, should he win a qualifying maiden or novice Stakes race in 2025. You can read more about how it works, here: https://www.itm.ie/Buying/Sales-Incentives/IRE-Incentive

He ought to be ready to run within a month, and given the provenance of his breeze, you’d anticipate he’d be going very close on debut - fingers crossed anyway. He’s got an abundance of talent, that’s for sure:

You’d struggle to find a better individual on site all week, he’s one of the most stunning chestnuts you could wish to see, and he moves fabulously well in all his paces, be they walking, trotting or galloping. We were quite determined to buy him, and he came in under budget, which is always a good sign when you’re searching for outstanding value for money.
