Purchased at the Tattersalls Cheltenham January Sale, we are thrilled to welcome multiple Grade 1 winning trainer COLIN TIZZARD to #TeamMPR, with this young exciting son of Mount Nelson.
NELSONS ROCK made a very favourable impression when winning his four-year-old maiden at Tinahely back in October, getting off the mark at the third time of asking and the five-year-old once again returned to the scene of his four-year-old success to record back-to-back successes for Wexford-based handler Mick Goff. The bay gelding made much of the running in the second half of the contest under a positive ride which saw him press on over the downhill fences on the final two circuits to increase the tempo. Once meeting the hill in the home straight on the final circuit, he kicked clear and was soon in command, ultimately crossing the line with eight lengths to spare. See the race video in the gallery.
The Racing Post were suitably impressed too (the link to his Racing Post profile is included on this profile page.) He’s been awarded a Racing Post Rating, for his 8 lengths victory in his 'Winners Of One' race, of a very tasty 92. Given the likes of Bacardys and Topofthegame (both subsequent Grade 1 festival winners) were awarded ratings of 93 and 94 respectively for their Point To Point victories, you can clearly see the sort of impression Nelsons Rock has made.
Out of a five-time winning mare Neardown Beauty, who is a half-sister to five-time track winner El Senador, this son of Mount Nelson seems to be a versatile gelding, who looks to have the potential to develop into a smart track performer that can further add to this winning family.
He’s looks an exceptionally bright, young prospect, for the Tizzards to work their magic with. The plan is to settle him in at the Tizzards’, Milborne Port base and all being well, run him in bumpers this Winter and Spring. Of course, his career ‘proper’ will begin in the Autumn, as the sky could be limit, once using his jumping assets, that he’s clearly shown, in his two time winning, Point To Point career.
Please see his full profile video in the gallery.
Trainer Update (8th February): Colin sent us the new video and photo of him, shown in the gallery. He says "Nelsons Rock has settled in well and is cantering away daily. He eats well, has a nice temperament and is pleasing us as he adjusts to a new routine."
