Nelsons Rock
Race entries
Purchased at the Tattersalls Cheltenham Sale, NELSONS ROCK made a very favourable impression when winning his four-year-old maiden at Tinahely, getting off the mark at the third time of asking and the five-year-old once again returned to the scene of his four-year-old success to record back-to-back successes for Wexford-based handler Mick Goff. The bay gelding made much of the running in the second half of the contest under a positive ride which saw him press on over the downhill fences on the final two circuits to increase the tempo. Once meeting the hill in the home straight on the final circuit, he kicked clear and was soon in command, ultimately crossing the line with eight lengths to spare. (See the race video in the gallery.)
Out of a five-time winning mare Neardown Beauty, who is a half-sister to five-time track winner El Senador, this son of Mount Nelson seems to be a versatile gelding, who looks to have the potential to develop into a smart track performer that can further add to this winning family.
We caught up with Colin and Joe at Doncaster sales and they were very excited about having him.
Racing Update: Already a winner this NH season, this big, strapping, dual Point to Point winner, before we bought him, was always destined to be better over fences than hurdles. He seems to like decent ground, rather than a slog in a bog, so he’s done really well to win over hurdles this Winter. We’ve freshened him up over the last couple of months and he’s set fair for a busy, Summer, campaign. Next season will be what we bought him for i.e. Chasing - we can’t wait! Stays really well and has all the tools to make a big impression in the coming months. His race entries/declarations will show on this page.
Here's a video of him schooling:
