Across the Codes double

Winner 38 of 2026: COPSHILL LAD, trained by Harry Derham and ridden by Paul O’Brien. The ‘Ladies Day Sunday 16th August Handicap Chase (GBB Race)’ over 3m2f at Southwell.

Copshill Lad was afforded a break after three good runs, including a win, during the autumn and early parts of the winter. And boy, did our beautiful grey reward our owners for their patience.

It was a foot-perfect round of jumping from Copshill Lad, who was sent out to make all under Paul O’Brien. Our gelding was in control of the race and in a lovely rhythm, but had to be tough inside the final furlong when he faced a strong challenge from the eventual second. Copshill Lad, though, showed a brilliant attitude under pressure and got the better of his main market rival to win for the second time this season.

Our NH string has been in fantastic form all season, with a 29% winning rate and 87.5% of our jumps horses having finished in the first 4.

Timeform rated his victory with a 111+, commenting: "Put his clumsy Market Rasen display behind him 3 months on, a soft lead helping his jumping and also probably the difference in a battle of fine margins between the market principals; soon led, reduced advantage 3 out, headed next but had enough left to rally and edge ahead again run-in, driven out."

Winner 39 of 2026: LEXINGTON EXPRESS, trained by Marco Botti and ridden by Marco Ghiani. The ‘Daily Profit Boosts At betmgm.co.uk Handicap (Div II)’ over 1m ½ furlong at Wolverhampton.

Another great frontrunning and ultimately, winning ride after Copshill Lad earlier this afternoon. This time, it was Marco Ghiani who got off to a great start and controlled the race aboard the strong-travelling Lexington Express. There was a moment of fear when our filly got challenged for the lead 5f from home, but Marco didn’t panic, and within a matter of strides, Lexington Express gained a couple of lengths on her rivals before she kicked for home and won impressively by 6 lengths.

Timeform gave her winning performance a rating of t71: "More exposed than the rest, seemed to show improved form in getting off the mark but was seen to maximum effect; soon led, joined briefly 3f out, kicked on approaching home turn, hung badly right straight, kept up to work; circumstances unlikely to be so favourable next time."
