Winner 90 of 2026: EPHRON, trained by Gemma Tutty and ridden by Conor Whiteley (5). The ‘GSS Contracts Handicap’ over 1m½f at Hamilton.

Ephron bounces right back to form and stays on well under young apprentice Conor Whiteley. The 5-pound-claimer dropped him out and let him find his rhythm at the early stages of the race. Our son of Calyx, who seemed to really relish the tactics, made good headway inside the final two furlongs, and once he had a clear run, he flew home to run down the longtime leader and eventual second-placed horse.

Well done to the owners of Ephron - our likeable and lightly raced gelding has now won twice and finished second from only five runs this year.

Timeform rated his victory with a 76: "Is proving rather hit-and-miss but remains gradually progressive, finding further improvement to resume winning ways back at 1m and maintain his unbeaten record at this trip; raced off the pace, ridden 3f out, headway from 2f out, fourth 1f out, stayed on to lead near line."
