Performed the fastest timed breeze at the Tattersalls Craven Sale.
On Monday 22nd June, approximately 150 horses galloped down the final 2.5 furlongs of Newmarket’s Rowley Mile course, advertising their wares to would be suitors in attendance. The Craven Breeze Ups are the country’s and arguably Europe’s ‘premier’ Breeze ups sale, having produced countless Group 1 winning horses over the years, including our two, quite recent purchases, Group 1 winners DONJUAN TRIUMPHANT (Richard Fahey) and VENTURA STORM (Richard Hannon). It’s a tried and tested venue for ourselves and international buyers alike.
Effectively, the process is a race against the clock to procure a hierarchy of ability, rather like a time trial in cycling or a downhill skiing race. In such events, there is always a WINNER, i.e. the one who completes the course in the fastest time, and we are delighted to report that this sensational son of the RICHARD HANNON trained MEHMAS was the fastest time on the day, and we are led to believe that 2 of the 2.5 furlongs, over which he was timed, were the fastest, back to back furlongs, since timings began, around 8 years ago, at the Craven Breeze Ups sales.
Monday’s breezers included 16 sons and daughters of the great Kodiac - 9, Night Of Thunders - 3, and Invincible Spirits - 4. So he’s done something freakish, there, on the Rowley Mile course, on Monday and who better to train him, than the trainer of his sire, Richard Hannon!

MEHMAS is the leading first crop sire in Europe. "He has made an electric start to his career at stud with the likes of the Clive Cox trained GROUP 1 Middle Park Stakes and GROUP 2 Richmond Stakes winner SUPREMACY, GROUP 2 GIMCRACK STAKES winner MINZAAL and the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes winner METHOD leading the way." You can imagine our delight to manage to secure, on our owners’ behalves, this stunning and terribly, terribly quick racehorse, for Richard Hannon to train, for 130,000gns (£136.500).
This colt’s times, suggest he is every inch a Group performer and, to boot, we’d be amazed if he’s not able to be quickly named and appearing on a racetrack within a matter of days; yes, days rather than weeks or months! There ought to be no hanging around with this lad, neither before we see him on the track, nor once he starts to ply his trade there too.
Ross Doyle, acted as agent, on our behalf, and he, very excitedly, nominated this colt as “The winner of the Group 2 Flying Childers’ Stakes at Doncaster In September.” Now, we were rather hoping he may have nominated him as “The winner of the Group 1 Nunthorpe at York in August” but I guess you can’t have it all! Maybe that’ll have to wait until next year, you never know?
One thing’s for sure, with the time and performance he put in the other day, you certainly couldn’t rule either of the nominated races out, at this stage anyway! He could easily be top drawer material.
