Eve Johnson Houghton
After working in Australia and London, Eve came back to work in racing. Firstly, for former syndicate manager Henry Ponsonby, then for Kingwood Stud and then as secretary and finally as assistant trainer to John Hills. During that time John had horses such as Group 1 winner Wind In Her Hair and Hong Kong winner Docksider, which Eve was very much involved with.
In 1999 Eve came back to Woodway to work for her father Fulke; renowned trainer of horses such as Rose Bowl, Habitat, Ile de Bourbon and Double Form to name but a few. They made a formidable team building the yard back up and in 2002 they bought a horse called Tout Seul together. He was bought for £12,000 and went on to win 5 out of 7 races as 2yo culminating in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes.
Eve started training in 2007 and had a flying start with 22 winners and has continued on an upward curve ever since, consolidating her position as a leading lady trainer. The 2018 season saw Eve scale new heights with her breakthrough Group 1 & Royal Ascot winner Accidental Agent who scored in fine style in the Queen Anne stakes.
In recent seasons team Woodway has also had other notable successes from the likes of The Cheka, What About Carlo, Scarlet Dragon & Magnolia Springs. Going forward, boutique trainer Eve is looking to keep on improving and increasing the size of the string whilst retaining the personal touch.
