Winner number 5 is Prince Of Eagles
Prince Of Eagles (David Lanigan) 1m Maiden Stakes at Lingfield.
Having his third start, the son of Free Eagle was chalked up as favourite, having clearly impressed in his first two starts. With the AW leading jockey Ben Curtis in the saddle, instructions were reiterated in the paddock, by his trainer David Lanigan. A slight change of tactics in the stalls (using a hood and a rug) he broke well and settled close up on the outer. At the three pole, coming around the bend, he was still travelling very well and was pretty much the last horse off the bridle. Ben began to push him along in the straight and pulled him around on the outer. He quickened well and led inside the final furlong under just hands and heels; as the Racing Post report says - "ran on, comfortably." As he crossed the line he pricked his ears and still has a bit to learn, so we are excited to see where he goes next. Timeform have given him a rating of 87p (the small 'p' means that the horse is 'likely to improve'.)
His syndicate manager Tom Palin says: "We will see what handicap mark he is allocated on Tuesday and make a race plan from there. We must congratulate David on what he has achieved with both these colts bought by us at Middleham Park as yearlings. For them both to have come out and won as nicely as they have done, all within the space of a week, is testament to the MPR and David Lanigan working partnership. Both were given the time they needed and the patience of their syndicates has paid off. We bought two more yearlings to go to David (Mastercraftsman filly and a Sea The Moon colt) and are excited to see where they can take us this year and beyond!"
