Our best year for 'breezer' purchases, with 11 fantastic new 2 year olds.

Sat 25 Jul 2020

Well yesterday, we came to the end of the 'Breeze-up Season' with the final Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge sale (held in Newmarket.) We, as ever spent an inordinate amount of time in pedigree research from the catalogue, inspections, more inspections, getting veterinary checks done on shortlisted horses and then setting realistic target prices; even before the horses arrived in the sales ring!

We came away with one super, value purchase - a colt by the leading first season sire MEHMAS, to go to Keith Dalgleish. We sent his details out to our *mailing list customers after the sale and he sold out very quickly.

We purchased two from the Craven Sale at Tattersalls, where we felt the quality was superb, as the sales results show: A colt by Mehmas, now named Clarendon House, who recorded the fastest breeze of the day, for Richard Hannon and a Filly by Noble Mission, bought to go to Marco Botti. Marco is delighted with this filly, who has a staying pedigree, as he was with us when we decided to buy her together.

We also managed to secure the fastest timed breezer from the Goffs/Arqana breeze up sale: A Colt by Twilight Sonwho has gone to Richard Fahey. (Their details and share prices can be seen on these direct links above.)

We are very pleased with our 11 breeze up season purchases - some exciting 2 year old recruits to race for us and their new owners. Three have made their debuts, with Thank You Next running twice and winning on her second start. Our 'breezer' results so far are 3rd, 2nd, 1st and 4th.

At all levels, we continue to deliver with our breeze up purchases and we see no reason why this should change in 2020!

We have had some lucrative success stories from previous breeze up sales; not just providing owners with winners but a tidy profit too. Here are three examples of Breeze-up horses purchased by our bloodstock team - the same team who have been working on this years sales:

VENTURA STORM - Trained by Richard Hannon, we purchased him at the Tattersalls Craven sale for 110k in 2016. Won 327k in prize money (Group 1, Group 3, two Listed wins & 2nd in the St Leger) and was sold privately to race in Australia for a high 6 figure sum.

DONJUAN TRIUMPHANT - Trained by Richard Fahey, we purchased him from the Tattersalls Craven sale for 30k. Won 239k in prize money (Group 2, 2nd in a Group 1) and was sold privately for a 6 figure sum.

DARK ACCLAIM - Trained by Marco Botti and purchased at the Goffs sale for 45k, he ran for us for a season and a half, winning more than his purchase price in race prize money. He was rated over 100 and finished 4th in the Italian Derby, Group 2 on his final start for us, before being sold for 6 times his initial purchase price at the Goffs London Sale in the summer of his 3yo career.

Last year, we purchased the 'breezers' BATCHELOR BOY (Marco Botti) who has now won 3 times for his syndicate and LEXINGTON DASH (Richard Hannon), an impressive winner at Newmarket, twice so far this season and who looks to be going places. He earned a Timeform rating of 104+ for his Class 2 win at HQ on June 28th.

Our 'Hornblower' Conditions Race winner VENTURA LIGHTNING (Richard Fahey) was also bought as a breezer in France. He is now Timeform rated 100 and as he is French Owners Premium qualified, we'll look for races in France for him this season.
