Leaping For Joy

Sun 26 Nov 2023

WINNER 107 OF 2023: LEAP ABROAD, trained by Paul and Oliver Cole & ridden by Rob Hornby: The 'BetUK. It's Where The UK Bets Handicap' over 6f at Wolverhampton.

30 minutes after ABSOLUTE QUEEN ran a really nice race to take 2nd in the stayers race, Leap Abroad had stall 8 of 9 to cope with in this sprint: his first start at Wolves.

Getting a good start, he was able to be prominent, although not able to get close to the rail. Racing in second, he took the lead in the final 110yds and in a sustained dual, ran on in determined fashion inside the final furlong, to lead close home and win by a head.

Timeform rated it as a career best t90 performance, with their comments to follow.

Rob said in his Sky Sports Racing interview: "I had to use plenty of petrol from the start and there was plenty of pace on. Not being able to get the rail, he is quite talented to take the race despite not getting the best position. He was honest all the way to the line."

Syndicate manager Mike says: "Well done to his owners on his win yesterday - the fourth of his career. He showed a fantastic attitude in the finish there to come out on top. I was worried about the draw, but Rob did well to get him to the fore and the horse did well to sustain his challenge like that in the final half a furlong. That's 4 winners and a 2nd place from 8 runners we have had a Wolves this week - not bad!"
