A Majestic Performance
WINNER 51 OF 2023: ABSOLUTE QUEEN trained by George Boughey and ridden by Pat Cosgrave: 'The Olivia's Boutique Racewear Handicap' over 1m 2f at Bath.
She is a daughter of Zoffany who has been pretty consistent, with results such as 2,3,2,4,4 in her 7 starts to date. A first time visit to Bath for her, where, during hot spells, the ground tightens up and here, it was described as 'firm.'
A pretty level break, four of them were vying for the lead over the first furlong and as they came to the bend, she found herself in front. Striding out nicely, she bowled along with ears pricked, as Pat steadied things up around the 6f marker. As they came into the home straight, she was challenged and headed, but rallied gamely to regain the lead after getting bumped coming into the final furlong. She kept on well on the way to the line and went clear again, to win by 2 lengths.
"Absolute Queen finding more for Pat Cosgrave on the way to the line." Watch the full race replay here: https://www.attheraces.com/racecard/Bath/17-June-2023/1430
Timeform rated it as a career best 76 saying: "Showed improved form to get off the mark; led, shaken up approaching 2f out, headed briefly soon, asserted again before final 1f, kept up to work.”
Pat told us: "She was good today, she was out quick and travelled around nicely. We got headed 2f out, but she battled back well and I hope there's more to come - she was pricking her ears at the end.”

Syndicate manager Mike says: "She and her owners deserved that victory, so very well done everyone. It was a good, well judged ride by Pat - congratulations to him and George on their Bath double. As Pat said, she won with ears pricked and he hopes there is more to come. George and I will look at the programme for her, but acting on firm ground gives plenty of options over the summer.”
