Night Of Thunder ex Petit Adagio colt
A perfect match! A 2yo colt by the sensational NIGHT OF THUNDER, trained by RICHARD HANNON. Who better to train this stunning colt; than the trainer of Night Of Thunder himself!
As soon as breeze ups sales began to be postponed just over a month ago, we specifically asked our trusted Bloodstock Agents, to keep us informed, if they heard of any top-class prospects that had originally been destined for the Breeze Ups, that may be available to purchase privately. We've a whole host of agents and vendors' connections, which helps us with our sourcing, and possibly accounts for how we've performed so well over the years with such horses.
Here are four examples of Middleham Park 'Breeze-up' purchase successes:
VENTURA STORM - Trained by Richard Hannon and purchased at the Tattersalls Craven sale for 110k. Won 327k in prize money (Group 1, Group 3, two Listed wins & 2nd in the St Leger) and was sold privately to race in Australia for a high 6 figure sum.
DONJUAN TRIUMPHANT - Trained by Richard Fahey and purchased from the Tattersalls Craven sale for 30k. Won 239k in prize money (Group 2, 2nd in a Group 1) and was sold privately for a 6-figure sum.
DARK ACCLAIM - Trained by Marco Botti and purchased at the Goffs sale for 45k, he ran for us for a season and a half, winning more than his purchase price in race prize money. He was rated over 100 and finished 4th in the Italian Derby, Group 2 on his final start for us, before being sold for 6 times his initial purchase price at the Goffs London Sale in the summer of his 3yo career.
This time last year, we purchased our Hornblower Conditions Race winner and Richard Fahey trained VENTURA LIGHTNING as a breezer. He is now officially rated 101.
By liaising with our top-class agents and directly from consignors too, we are being offered, almost on a daily basis, Breeze Up horses, prepped for their big day at the sales, for private Sale here and now, with vendors being forced to wait, otherwise, until the end of June before presenting their horse at the sales. We’ve been sifting through all the offers we’ve had and are only acting on the ones that impress us and which we believe will perform to a high standard in our silks.
This NIGHT OF THUNDER colt, has been sourced for us by the legendary bloodstock agents, Peter and Ross Doyle, who say: “This colt is in the nicest 5 or 6 colts I’ve been to view this Breeze Ups’ Season and I have seen hundreds. The ones I’d compare him with, have been price tagged at hundreds of thousands of euros.” They know a nice horse when they see one! https://www.doyleracing.com/hall-of-fame/
The emergent, freshman sire of 2019 was almost undoubtedly, the "Group 1 Lockinge hero and winner of the finest 2,000 Guineas since 1971," Night Of Thunder. Being a son of the wonder sire Dubawi, it should be little surprise, that he’s shot to prominence, in such a short space of time. He’s already posting Group winners in 2020 so you can imagine our delight, in being able to purchase this fabulous son of the best, up and coming sire out there, who was being prepped for the Breeze Ups. See his stallion page and some impressive first season sire stats here: https://www.darleyeurope.com/stallions/our-stallions/night-thunder.
This colt has such fabulous size and conformation, and as you can see from his walk and profile video here:
Watch his breeze video in the gallery - see how fluent and fluid his movements are, in both his slower and his faster paces. He’s just the sort of individual whose genes and physique will be seen to thrive at Richard Hannon’s Herridge base. He looks like developing into a very classy miler, in time, starting off over 6f in the middle of July.
We can’t wait to crack on with him, and we’d love to believe we can be cheering him home, and into the winners’ enclosure, in a matter of weeks. In the USA, Breeze Up sales are called “ready to run sales” and that’s precisely what this fabulous, and we think, value colt, represents.
Pedigree Update (18th June): "Night Of Thunder continued his march towards the upper echelons of the stallion ranks on Thursday when his son Molatham produced a smart display to win the Group 3 Jersey Stakes and give his sire a breakthrough success at Royal Ascot."
