Purchased at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses-In-Training sale; he is by Wootton Bassett. Read more about his sire here: https://www.etreham.com/eng/fiche-etalon-haras.php?nom=wootton-bassett.
He is 'French Owner Premiums' qualified and joins the stable of MICK APPLEBY, who has done wonders with our own Star Of Southwold, who won 4 times in 2019. Given he’s probably one of the shrewdest judges in the game and possibly one of the best improvers of a horse from others’ yards, it's no surprise that Mick was crowned 2019/20 Champion All-Weather Trainer, for the third consecutive year and he really is hard to beat in this sphere!
Mick put this horse to us as an individual from the afore mentioned sale, who he believes will particularly suit his way of operating. An expensive yearling purchase by Hamdan Al Maktoum at €170,000, it’s probably fair to say that he had not yet, proved to be as talented as the Dubai owner had perhaps hoped, so much so, that he was sent to the sales in October 2019, having placed 4th on all three attempts on track in France.
He has been running well for us since joining Mick, winning and finishing in the winners enclosure 8 times. Still young and lightly raced and after a few trip, tactics and headgear tweaks, he's knocking on the door to do so again! We’d very much have the option of juvenile hurdling or novice hurdling in the future too. In fact, some of the underbidders at the auction, where we had to dig quite deep at 34,000gns, were trainers renowned for both flat and jumping prowess.
Racing Update (24th Sept): He has had a break after being gelded and Mick says that he is thriving. He should settle more in his races now and we think he has a few pounds of untapped potential - the plan is to get him ready for a winter all-weather campaign now. Something Mick does very well of course! His race entries will show on this page.
Here are some videos of him on the gallops:
