We’re big fans of the Royal Ascot, Norfolk Stakes winner and now stallion, Prince Of Lir (sire of our 2022 Ripon Hornblower Conditions Stakes and Listed Harry Rosebery Stakes winner, Prince Of Pillo), as is the shrewd Robson Aguiar (Breeze Up Consignor of The Lir Jet). Two Gallops, Two Wins!!
Let us present, a very exciting, privately purchased, homebred by Robson himself. He’s a lovely colt out of a Dawn Approach (Champion 2yo of his generation & 2000 Guineas winner,) mare who has produced one winner from her sole runner, to date. Robson, as you know is a good as any of the very best breeze up consignors, so when he is able to ring and inform us that this colt has competed in two, six runner gallops at home and remains unbeaten in both, we have to sit up and take notice.
We’re told he has bags of ability, is very fast and is ready to run as soon as racing on the turf begins. There are 4, 2yo races in France in the second half of March and we’ll be targeting one. We’d expect him to go very close to winning, at the very least, on debut, before going on to bigger and better things. His second race could easily be in the Brocklesby on 1st April, the opening day of the turf in GB at Doncaster. It’s Robson’s considered opinion (he’s seen him and worked him all his life) that if here’s a superstar in the Brocklesby like Persian Force or The Last Lion, then we’d struggle to beat that sort of candidate, however any normal renewal of the Brocklesby, we’d be very competitive in.
He’s the sort of horse who could run half a dozen times, mostly over 900m, 5f, 5.5f & 6f, this side of Royal Ascot - sharp, early and very talented. He qualifies for just about every 2yo race, that’s scheduled in GB and he’ll have a number of early closing, sales race entries too; the sorts of race that MPR runners excelled in, in 2022 - Eddie’s Boy & Shouldvebeenaring being two notable examples.
We’ve chosen the very talented, up and coming, Newmarket trainer, Amy Murphy to take charge of his career. Not just that she’s talented, successful and a great communicator, but also, she’s very adept with race placement of horses in her charge, maximising opportunities both here and abroad, and typically in France, where prize money returns are phenomenal. Such race placement is a great string to her bow and we’re sure she’ll maximise our colt’s potential. Another good reason that we have placed him in Amy's hands, is that she trained his half-sister to win!
It’s most likely that we’ll race him for this season only and sell him at the Horses In Training Sales in October 2023. The only two scenarios that would deflect us from that, would be - should he prove to be a bit of a top class superstar, himself, and were the syndicate to vote to retain him as a 3yo for 2024, or secondly - should a BIG offer come in for him, during is 2yo career, that the syndicate were to choose to accept.
He’s great value, a son of a Royal Ascot 2yo winner. A really decent sized colt, he’s not just about the here and now though, running out of petrol come July, he’s definitely one for the entire 2023 season.
He’s a very exciting recruit from the firm who brought through, to breeze, Brave Emperor, Go Bears Go, Lady Hollywood, Persian Force, Summer Sands, The Lir Jet etc etc.
Here he is having a leg stretch at Robsons:
You can see 3 videos of his walk that Robson sent us this week in the gallery.
He will move from Robson’s 'Aguiar Bloodstock' in the first week of March. He will arrive, requiring 1 further gallop, simply, to top up his fitness - all other preparations will be completed by then. He did precisely this in 2022 with a certain Brocklesby Winner, PERSIAN FORCE & BRAVE EMPEROR too.
