Walking On Ayr!

Tue 12 Jul 2022

WINNER 73 OF 2022: PRINCE OF PILLO, trained by Keith Dalgleish and ridden by Callum Rodriguez: 'The Hospitality at Scottish Sun Ladies Night Restricted Novice Stakes' over 6f at Ayr.

Purchased at the Tattersalls Goresbridge sale - ths same sale as our Monday debut winner Coralillo, Keith had the son of Prince Of Lir in great condition, as the Racing TV team commented how 'race ready' he looked in the paddock.

Drawn in 15/15, towards the stands rail, as they broke he was prominent from the off. The field moved down the centre of the track and the flashy chesnut bowled along on the nearside, pressing the leader. Shaken up 2f out, he moved to take a narrow lead inside the final furlong, but kept on well, winning by a neck.

Timeform gave him an 84+ rating, saying: "Ran to a fairly useful level as he made a winning start, proving a bit of a handful beforehand but very professional once underway; close up, took strong hold, effort 2f out, led last ½f, stayed on; open to improvement.”

Callum said in his Racing TV interview: "He got a bit nervous behind the stalls, but then was okay, once he saw what we wanted him to do! I really liked his attitude - he is really professional and knows his job. He is sharp and fast.”

WINNER 74 OF 2022: BRUNO'S GOLD, trained by Archie Watson and ridden by Paul Mulrennan: The feature 'Scottish Sun Ladies Night Handicap' over 1m 2f at Ayr.

Back after a gelding operation and a break of 52 days, he and Archie's team made the long journey up from Lambourn for the feature race.

In touch with the leaders, on the inner, Paul had to snatch up briefly as he was short of room, and was shuffled back a little. Making the switch to the outer to avoid a repeat, he made headway to challenge over 2f out and soon led. Hard pressed inside the final furlong, he kept on and just did enough, to win by a neck.

The Racing Post made him the 'Star performer' of the meeting, saying: "Bruno's Gold (3.35) returned to form on his second start in a handicap and looks worth following."

Timeform rated it as a career best 86, saying: "After 8 weeks off, became the third next-time-out winner from the Haydock handicap won by Rich King, little improvement needed on his previous form; in touch, produced to lead around 2f out, tackled well inside final 1f, held on gamely.”

This was our second double within 24 hours! The horses are running superbly and to have another 2 year-old win on debut (that is 6 this season) shows the quality of juveniles we have on the team! Well done to both sets of owners, who by all accounts had a marvellous dat at Ayr!
