The MPR and Richard Fahey 2-year-old success story!
We have a superb record with our juveniles trained by Richard. His is our only trainer who has sent 2-year old’s that we have purchased as yearlings, to race at Royal Ascot – every year since 2017! Simmy’s Copshop, Ninetythreetwenty and Ventura Rebel are these trailblazers and we think our new purchases are a step up again in quality.
The owners of Ninetythreetwenty and Ventura Rebel accepted multiple six figure offers for both these 2-year olds and consequently earned a fantastic profit, so we do know how to buy a talented yearling for Mr Fahey to train. Listed and Group winning fillies Sandiva and Lily's Angel were also superstars for us trained at Musley Bank.
Our 2019 Ripon, Hornblower Conditions race winner, Ventura Lightning (OR 100), bought in 2019 as a breeze-up colt, is one to look forward to back on the turf this season.
Purchased at the Tattersalls Ireland Yearling sale, this colt is by FOOTSTEPSINTHESAND. It’s fair to say that the sire has enjoyed a stellar couple of seasons with his progeny, starting with our own MARIE’S DIAMOND who, in 2018, won the Group 3 Anglesey Stakes as a 2yo at The Curragh, followed by finishing placed in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes and Group 1 Middle Park Stakes.
He trained on to win two further races in 2019 for us, including the listed Pomfret Stakes. Furthermore, Footstepsinthesand has backed this up, in 2019, with Richard Hannon’s top class 2yo colts, Mums Tipple and Threat.
Footstepsinthesand has now been catapulted to the being perceived as one of the very top stallions out there, and you can imagine our delight in managing to secure, from the same sale that we purchased Marie’s Diamond, a couple of fantastic colts by the sire of the moment. Successes for ourselves, in the form of Richard Fahey's Group 3 winner Sandiva and also for Richard Hannon’s Larchmont Lad, show Footstepsinthesand’s ongoing ability to deliver top class performers; he’s a fabulous sire! Read more about him here: https://coolmore.com/stallions/footstepsinthesand.
As you will see, he is quite the most sensational mover you could wish for. He looks a fabulous combination of a strong, 2yo type of individual, who moves like a quality horse. If he can combine those two on the track, then we could well be destined for another of the above mentioned colts, VENTURA REBEL or NINETYTHREETWENTY from the Musley Bank maestro! It’d be fabulous to believe we could and there’s no reason why he couldn’t be.
He is PLUS 10 BONUS registered. Read more about that here: https://www.plus10bonus.com/
He was broken in at the same livery yard, we used to break in the above mentioned VENTURA REBEL last year and NINETYTHREETWENTY the previous year, so there’s every reason to hope that this colt can follow in their illustrious hoof-steps.
Please see videos of him in the gallery.
Pedigree Update (5th November) - The Racing Post reported: "The redoubtable Footstepsinthesand has been rewarded for a fruitful year, with horses like Threat and Mums Tipple, with an increase in his stallion fee of €5,000, up to €15,000."
Listen to a very interesting (13th May) podcast from Kevin Blake, in discussion with Bloodstock agent Ross Doyle, who we bought this horse with, here: https://soundcloud.com/user-275456286/racingonly-bettor-lockdown-lowdown-5-ross-doyle-special
Trainer Update (7th July): Richard told us this morning, that this colt is "shaping very well." He hasn't put a hoof wrong and has galloped twice in the last 2 weeks and he is now at the right stage to head to the grass gallops in Malton for a piece of work. At this stage, we anticipate him being ready to make his debut by the end of July and we look forward to getting him named in the meantime. He is a lovely scopey individual, a type of horse who shapes like he has a long term future - not just a 2yo career. He has the same temperament as all the good Footstepsinthesand progeny that we have had before and does nothing but want to please you and go faster, which is always a better sign than them wanting to go slower we find!
