Ventura Diamond shines at the Qatar Goodwood Festival

Sat 01 Aug 2020

Winner 35 of the year: VENTURA DIAMOND, trained by Richard Fahey and ridden by Oisin Murphy. The British European Breeders Fund EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes at the Qatar Goodwood Festival, over 6f.

In the penultimate race on the card, Thank You Next placed a good 3rd in the Class 2 Nursery Handicap and we should see her over 7 furlongs next for Richard Hannon, with a possible tilt at a Group race (keep an eye on our entries list!)

Then we came to the final race of the day, where Ventura Diamond, a daughter of Dandy Man was having her second start, after finishing 4th at Sandown behind Miss Jingles. She was a winner this week at this meeting and the form of that race has worked out very well, so we were hopeful of a good run from her!

She broke well and was always in contention, pressing the hot favorite who took the lead. With 2 furlongs to go Oisin gave her a squeeze and in the final furlong she made headway to pull away on the line and win by a length.

Syndicate manager Tom says: "To take the fillies Maiden in such fine style at such a prestigious meeting as 'Glorious Goodwood' is superb. She just has a very likeable attitude, she puts her head down and I thought Oisin gave her a great ride. I think there's plenty more to come and I think she will stay further in time. She has come out of the race great and I'll see what her handicap mark is on Tuesday and have a sit down with Richard to make a plan. To have a Festival winner and to see the photos of the happy owners is just what this game is all about. Well done everyone!"

Thank you so much to Goodwood for looking after our owners so well this week. Brilliant that so many were able to attend with the increase to 3/4 badges per runner and the chance to 'dress up' for a race day again was exciting! Well done to her owners and thank you to team Musley Bank and Oisin.

To come away from a competitive Festival week with a winner, a 2nd from Magical Wish and a 3rd place is super!

We have had 14 2-year old's make their debuts so far. There have been 5 winners and 9 have placed 2nd or 3rd - including of course the Group 2 Prix Robert Papin won by Ventura Tormenta, the Qatar Goodwood Festival Maiden winner Ventura Diamond and Ventura Mutiny winning the £25,000 Book 1 Bonus last time out. We have some very nice breezers set to debut shortly too and a great set of 2 year old's in the #TeamMPR locker, so fingers crossed.
