We are delighted to welcome TOM DASCOMBE to our trainers roster, with this colt by one of our favourite stallions, DRAGON PULSE. Purchased at THE sale for 2 year old's; the Goffs Premier Yearling Sale, read about his sire here: http://irishnationalstud.ie/stallion/dragon-pulse
There aren't many horses that blow you away when they are unearthed by their handler from the stable box at the sales; this horse however, did precisely that. He's about as nice an individual as you could wish to set eyes on, great presence, great movement; he has the wow factor.
Both Tom Dascombe and ourselves have had great success with Dragon Pulse progeny; Ninetythreetwenty (now racing in Hong Kong after his owners received an offer they couldn't refuse for him!) Ventura Dragon, Dragon Tails and Light My Fire to name but a few. We believe Dragon Pulse is underrated as a sire and his stock, through the sales' ring, represent great value; offering quality horses at value for money prices, which is something we pride ourselves on at MPR.
We purchased this colt from Lynn Lodge who we've had great success purchasing from, most notably our Group 2 winner Donjuan Triumphant and furthermore, our 7- time winner Ventura Knight, from a very small number of horses purchased. Eddie is a fantastic judge and preps the horses so well. His horses have great minds and they're tough. We feel this colt is the perfect recipe for a potentially high class career; he's a 2yo for 2019 with the presence and scope to progress still further as a 3yo.
He is 'Plus 10 Bonus' registered. Read about the benefits here: https://www.plus10bonus.com/
"Irish National Stud inmate Dragon Pulse remains a productive factory of winners and he returned a 43 per cent winners-to-runners strike-rate with his two-year-olds in Europe this year." Racing Post Bloodstock report 29th December 2018.
We have added two videos: When questioned, his work rider says "Very nice. One of the best colts I have ever sat on-he's very strong. Big, but well balanced and carries himself nicely."
Trainer update (17th April): Tom sent us the attached video of him working upsides this morning (he is in the centre). He told us that he is "coming along nicely." The team at Manor House are very pleased with how he is coming along and Tom really likes him, telling us that "he's a lovely stamp of a horse."
We are delighted to report that he will also have his first entry; an early closing one to the £300k Goffs UK Conditions race held at York at the Ebor meeting every year. This is only open to horses who have been purchased from the Goffs UK sales and it carries vast sums of prize money, around £150,000 to the winner. This race is clearly a very long way away but one can dream can't they?!
His official racing name is GENEVER DRAGON (pronounced Gin-eve-er.) In English, genever was the early 18th century word for "gin". Genever Gin does exist today, long popular in The Netherlands and Belgium, genever — also known as geneva, genievre, jenever, Holland gin, or Dutch gin — is essentially a distilled malted spirit (something like an unaged Scotch) often blended with grain neutral spirit, then infused or further distilled with various herbs and spices, including a healthy amount of juniper, like gin. It can be clear, lightly aged, or aged in oak for several years.
