Copshill Lad
Race entries
Since the recent success of our Horses-In-Training purchase MORDRED, we have been looking for another horse to send to the shrewd Milton Harris. Today, with Milton, we found him at the Tattersalls Cheltenham February Sale!
Matthew Prior, Head Of Tattersalls Cheltenham Sales said; “The Cheltenham February Sale, the source of such stars as the Grade 1 winners Envoi Allen, Asterion Forlonge and Ferny Hollow, is always much anticipated, given this is traditionally the first sale of the season to offer four-year-old Irish pointers.”
'Copshill Lad, a son of the Racing Post Trophy and St Leger winner KINGSTON HILL, was the only runner in the Kirkistown maiden P2P on February 12th, capable of testing the potentially high class Broughshane. He broke from the pack at the second last to mount a challenge and the time of the race was such that this confirms it was a top-level effort. It was sixteen seconds faster than the average time on the day and this fellow was well clear of his rivals with a Colin Bowe Soldier Of Fortune fifteen lengths behind in third. He looks a tough sort to provide plenty of entertainment in the NH sphere.'
Watch that race here:
He hails from the famous Monbeg Stables of C Doyle, who have sold the likes of Monbeg Dude, Holywell, Topofthegame, Bravemansgame and Monkfish to name but a few!
Standing at a magnificent 16.2hh already, this fabulous 4yo is still a shell of a horse. It’s what particularly attracted us to him when we were viewing him at the sale. If he can achieve what he has to date, who knows what he can go on to, as he matures. He’s the sort of horse who can run and win for us now, but should continue to improve, no end, year in, year out as he strengthens up.
Here he is walking and trotting at the sales complex:
We’ll start him off in bumpers this Spring and go hurdling throughout the 2022/2023 NH season. Of course, given his Point To Point exploits, he’s sure to excel over fences, in time.
He’s a thoroughly exciting individual.

Training Update (18th April): Milton took him for a racecourse gallop at Kempton. He took his 4 best bumper horses and he finished upsides the leader. Even better than that, each of the 3 fellow gallopers HAVE COME OUT AND WON! Milton says that he is 'a freak' doing that at this stage, even before Milton has put some condition on him. He says that when he fills out his frame, he can see no end of improvement to come from him. He has him on a feeding regime to aid this and says that the fact that he jumped so well and ran like he did shows what talent he has under the bonnet. Milton is targeting a race on May 15th for him. His race entries/declarations will show on this page.
