Purchased at the GOFFS PREMIER YEARLING SALE, ELZAAM is a sire we have done very well with from our Listed winning and Group 2 and 3 placed filly Clem Fandango. Now a Group 1 winning sire, after Champers Elysees won the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on Irish Champions Weekend, 2020.

He is 'PLUS 10 BONUS' qualified. Read more here: https://www.plus10bonus.com/

We are thrilled to welcome Champion Jockey turned multiple Group 1-winning trainer Joseph O'Brien to the MPR Training team: Probably THE rising star in the training ranks, from either side of the Irish Sea. His achievements since taking out a recent training license have proven nothing short of phenomenal, sending out Breeders Cup, St Leger, Royal Ascot, Cheltenham Festival and Melbourne Cup winners, no less. We tried very hard to find a suitable yearling in 2018 for Joseph to race as a 2yo in 2019, and despite bring underbidder, twice, on two stunning colts, we weren’t able to secure our first Joseph O'Brien inmate. We were determined to set the record straight, this time around. Fortunately, we have managed to strike early, this sales’ season with this outstanding son of Elzaam.

When sourcing new yearlings at the Doncaster sale, the place to start, is with the individual, and work outwards from there. Here, we have a quite outstanding individual, blessed with great substance, scope and great movement too. He backs that up with a fantastic young sire in Elzaam and a mare who has already produced a full brother, rated in excess of 100. We’ve had to dig quite deep to secure him as our first Joseph O’Brien yearling at £62,000, but given Joseph trains one of the very best progeny of the sire, in the Group race winning WAITINGFORTHEDAY, he seemed the perfect trainer for the horse. The day before the sale, we’d asked Joseph for a shortlist of his picks, he’d found around half a dozen and napped two, in particular, this colt and another, later in the sale. We were delighted to be able to secure the first of them as they went through the ring. Purchased through agent Bobby O’Ryan, who thought he was “a smasher.”

Trainer update (18th October): Joseph says: "Classy Choice is in good shape at home, he is in full work and is looking and moving well. We are looking forward to getting him out in the coming weeks.” We’ll be looking towards a race of going 7f-1m for him and he is probably going to be a middle-distance type horse next year."

Here's the latest video update on him. We all responded with "WHAT A STRIDE!"
