Curragh - Irish 2000 Guineas
At the Osarus sale at La Teste De Buche in 2016, Nicholas Watrigant bought a Le Havre yearling colt for us to go into training with Richard Hannon. The horse was TIGRE DU TERRE. He made a winning racecourse debut at Ascot no less, winning by 4.5 lengths and subsequently finished 4th, 3rd and 2nd respectively in Listed company on his next three runs, earning dual 'black type' and after taking a vaulable Class 2 handicap at Sandown, his owners received an offer for him they couldn't refuse and he was sold for a 'very large sum' privately to race in Hong Kong.
So, when Nicholas Watrigant purchased this colt, by the same sire, from the same sale for around the same price, we had little hesitation in agreeing to purchase the fabulous, strong but athletic colt. He hails from a fabulous farm and goes into training with one of the best trainers in Europe. We own him in partnership with Gérard Augustin-Normand. At the time of purchase it was agreed that when he races in Britain he will wear our colours and in France he will wear the white and purple of M Augustin-Normand-owner of Le Havre no less!
This colt is qualified for French owners premiums. France is well known for its lucrative system of Owners’ premiums on top of already generous prize-money. On the flat, a 2 or 3-year-old can earn an extra 64% on top of the race purse, so we would expect to be taking full advantage of this initiative.
Syndicate manager update: Surely a Group 1 performer in the making. He’s a Listed winner and a Group 1 placed horse. The sky’s the limit in 2019 and here's a rare opportunity to buy into a top class 2yo. He’s roughly the 13th best 2yo colt in Europe. That really saying something!
