Having enjoyed several successful years at Saffron House Stables, George’s training operation continued to grow, and when the opportunity presented itself, in January 2025, he completed the purchase of Craven House Stables on the Hamilton Road in Newmarket.
Originally built as separate yards in the 1960s, Craven House and Shadowfax Stables have been operated in conjunction since 2005 and are now combined as home to George Boughey Racing. Standing on close to 6 acres with over 100 licenced boxes, Craven House Stables boasts impressive training facilities including a large all-weather trotting ring, 4 horse walkers, turnout paddocks, equine spa and direct access onto the gallops. The newly upgraded office building now comprises a large owners facility with panoramic views of the yard as well as generous working office space.
Prior to taking out his trainer’s licence at the age of 27, George acquired considerable first-hand experience of the racing industry; initially within the bloodstock sector and then during a spell in Australia, where he joined Gai Waterhouse in Sydney before working for Lloyd Williams in Melbourne. On his return to Newmarket George spent six years as Assistant Trainer to Hugo Palmer.
Having started out with just four horses in his care, George has gone from strength to strength as a trainer. The operation has grown substantially since 2019, seeing winners and success across all levels on the track. He landed his first Classic winner on 1st May 2022 with CACHET staying on gamely to take the QIPCO 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket.
