The sweetest Song

Sun 29 Jun 2025

Winner 38 of 2025: SONG OF THE CLYDE, trained by Clive Cox and ridden by Joe Fanning. 'EBF Maiden Stakes' over 6f at Chester.

Having shown plenty of ability during his work at home, our son of Sergei Prokofiev just got lost a little bit on debut at Goodwood but firmly left that behind him with a most encouraging victory at Chester on only his second start.

Following a sustained battle with the favourite Angel of Anfield for the majority of the race, Song of the Clyde kicked him into touch and was well in the ascendancy at the line, with the third a further 5 lengths behind that pair.

A colt with plenty of size and scope about him, he leaves loads of options open from here on in, notably the Harry’s Half million race at York which has been won in the last three years either by a Clive Cox trained horse or a Middleham Park Racing owned horse, so fingers crossed the team can combine to bring home that valuable prize.

Well done to all connections of this exciting colt, he looks to provide owners with plenty of fun for the second half of the season and beyond.

Timeform rated his performance with an 87: "Left debut form well behind to get the better of the odds-on favourite, much sharper second time up; pressed leader, carried right from 2f out, edged ahead approaching final 1f, asserted final 100 yds; will go on improving and looks the type to do well in nurseries."
