A winner at 2, our son of Starspangledbanner still showed some signs of greenness and inexperience throughout a very dry turf season, running good races without winning. But his full talent was back on display at Yarmouth, where he broke well from the starting stalls and led the far side group all the way under Hector Crouch. He found plenty when under pressure a furlong from home and kept on well in the closing stages, fighting off several attempts from his rivals. A snug win by our eye-catching and clearly very talented son of Starspangledbanner.

Timeform rated his victory with an 89; "proved at least as good as ever to capitalise on a mark that has edged down; raced far side, made all, shaken up over 2f out, edged right inside final 1f, kept on; it'll likely be a different ball game if taking up his entry under a penalty in the Ayr Bronze Cup, though, for all he's proven his effectiveness at 6f."

Of course, he has fairly come down in his handicap mark, which did help him, but I feel that, mainly, the riding tactics seemed to have been the key to yesterday's success.
