Oh, What a Knight!

Tue 18 Oct 2022

WINNER 115 OF 2022: LEXINGTON KNIGHT, trained by Richard Hannon and ridden by Rab Havlin: 'The Breeders' Cup Sky Sports Racing Handicap' over 1m 4f at Wolverhampton.

Firstly, we are sorry for poor Andrea Atzeni, who was originally booked for the race, but was ill yesterday. Rab Havlin stepped in for the ride.

Breaking sharply, from stall 3, he was immediately in front, but settled into 2nd, as another horse moved forward to take the lead. Still prominent, coming around the home bend, there were challengers on both sides. Pushed along, he made good headway to lead over 1f out, keeping on gamely, to win by 3/4 of a length.

Timeform rated it as a t79 performance, saying: "Made it 2 wins from 2 starts at this track, seen to maximum effect back down in trip; prominent, pushed along 3f out, led 2f out, ridden over 1f out, hung left, kept on, well positioned.”

Rab said in his Sky Sports Racing interview to Vanessa: "That was a good ride to pick up. He raced a bit lazy, but that was a nice pace to aim at. He picked up well in the straight.”

Syndicate manager Tim says: "Delighted that he was able to secure a second course and distance win. He has been pretty consistent - 13 times in the top 3 from 22 starts, isn't too shabby and this was his third win. Well done to his owners and thank you to Rab for a well judged ride."
