Noble Double
Tue 27 Jan 2026
Winner 12 of 2026: QUAY ITEM, trained by Nicky Henderson and ridden by Nico de Boinville. The ‘Howden Insurance Brokers Maiden Hurdle’ over 2m4f at Plumpton.
Expectations were high ahead of Quay Item’s second run, not just because he finished an eye-catching third on his racecourse debut, and Nicky made no bones about how much he likes what he sees at home, but the National Hunt maestro trained an astonishing 99 winners around Plumpton throughout his career, and if we were to win, it would have been his 100th winner on the course. What a start to Quay Item's career, providing such a milestone.
He had taken a significant step forward since his last run, but was still learning on the job and green at times. They went a strong gallop on the front end, and Nico just sat off the leading pairs, giving him a great, patient and confident ride; and after a huge leap over the last, Quay Item was comfortably on top past the post. Our likeable son of Sholokhov wasn't in love with the sharpness of the track, but his ability and wonderful attitude got him through.

Very happy owners:
Timeform rated his victory with an 117+: "Confirmed the promise of his hurdling debut 9 weeks on and looks the sort to quickly make up into a useful stayer; tracked pace, close up 3 out, led approaching last, forged clear."
Listen to Nico and his thoughts on our exciting young chaser in the making:
Tom Palin: "Congratulations! Well done, everybody, and a big thank you for the support and faith you have shown in the team at Seven Barrows and, of course, the horse. Let's hope it's the first of many victories we can enjoy with him, and I think it's fair to say, it certainly looked like that, didn't it? He has come on leaps and bounds from his debut performance at Doncaster, and we probably made him a bit uncomfortable around Plumpton, but he will have learned plenty in return, and we are confident he will step forward again with more racing experience under his belt.
It's probably fair to say he wasn't in love with the sharpness of the track, but his class and ability got him through; he was very comfortably on top on the line. So again, congratulations, and it looks like we have a very likeable and exciting young horse on our hands."

Winner 13 of 2026: Eupator, trained by Richard Hannon and ridden by Sean Levey. The ‘Midnite A Next Generation Betting App Handicap’ over 1m 1½f at Wolverhampton.
Eupator was the talk of the evening in the Sky Sports Racing Studio after his uber-impressive maiden success on Friday.
Despite not having the easiest time at the front end, Sean managed to control the race again and get Eupator nice and relaxed before quickening smartly turning for home. The pair stretched away on top of the straight and went clear inside the final furlong, storming to another imposing and rather comfortable success under a 5lb penalty.

Timeform rated his back-to-back victory with a t93: "Is rapidly on the up all of a sudden and made it 2 wide-margin wins in 3 days having controlled matters from the front under a penalty; made all, travelled fluently, quickened home turn, drew clear final 1f, won readily; in good hands and will remain of plenty of interest."
