A saturday treble

Sun 08 Mar 2026

Winner 33 of 2026: LARGY BELTER, trained by Dan Skelton, and ridden by Tristan Durrell. The ‘Check Out Fairplay's Cheltenham Offers Handicap Chase’ over 2m at Hereford.

Our powerful big bay stormed to another impressive victory under the young and very talented Tristan Durrell, keeping their streak at 100%. After his fine success at Leicester last time out, Dan was confident beforehand, but wary about the drying ground at Hereford.

With the eventual second, and last year’s winner, favouring the drier surface, we feared it could see our lad out of his comfort zone. But boy, did he prove us wrong. A faultless round of jumping under young Tristan, after he was sent out with different tactics in mind than last month, just showed his versatility and ability to adapt in his races now. Travelling powerfully throughout the race, he was sweeping to the front after the penultimate fence and put 7 lengths between himself and the rest of the field in the final half a furlong, backing up his victory in Leicester in fine style.

We certainly didn’t go down the conventional route to get him where we are today, but well done to his owners, who were very, very trusting in the horse and the process.

Well done to Dan and all the team at home, he clearly is a Belter by name, and a Belter by nature.

Timeform rated his back-to-back victory with a 136: "Is getting to grips with things now and followed up from last time, showing the forcing tactics used then are by no means important to him; held up, travelled well, headway 4 out, quickened to lead after 2 out, in command last, won readily; he's the type to be suited by a well-run race and can hold his own in better handicaps."

Winner 34 of 2026: BY THE GRACE, trained by Nicky Henderson OBE, and ridden by Mr Daniel Williams (7). The ‘Fairplay Daily Price Boosts Novices' Limited Handicap Hurdle’ over 2m3 1/2 f at Hereford.

Our beautiful daughter of Blue Bresil, who is bred on the same cross as Constitution Hill, shows a game attitude when battling to victory under conditional Daniel Williams at Hereford.

It wasn’t always as straightforward during the career of our regally bred 7-year-old mare, with a few setbacks and niggles along the way, but our owners and the team at Seven Barrows never lost faith and were rewarded with a sweet victory on a competitive Saturday afternoon at Hereford.

After a good 4th at Southwell last time out, where she jumped well but got tired in the final furlong, Mr Daniel Williams gave her another great ride yesterday, settling her in fourth for most of the race, with the leaders setting a strong early pace.

By the Grace was making good headway three furlongs from home, with the eventual second trying to keep tabs on our mare. But a huge leap over the last, and a strong gallop to the line saw our tenacious 7-year-old out on top. A well-deserved victory for our daughter of Blue Bresil, her trainer and all the team at Seven Barrows, but most importantly for our owners, who have been incredibly patient and understanding throughout her career.

Shares have become available in By the Grace, which offers a fantastic, and not-too-expensive opportunity to join the Seven Barrows team with Nicky Henderson at the helm. Visit the link below to find out more and how to get involved:

Winner 35 of 2026: TYGER BAY, trained by Conrad Allen, and ridden by Jack Gilligan. The ‘Fairwood Brasserie Handicap’ over 6f at Chelmsford.

Our stalwart bounced right back to form after his run at Kempton last time out, where he had had a decent blow, which suggested he might have needed the race after a well-deserved holiday.

Jack had him well positioned in a strongly run race and filled the tank, so to speak, around the bend before making his challenge when turning for home. The eventual second came on his outer to rally our gelding, but Tyger Bay kept finding in the final hundred yards and held on to win by a neck.

It was his second victory over course and distance, with a 14th victory overall.

I can't help but quote the Racing Post about our 9-year-old: “He’s a solid sort.”

Yes, he is. A fantastic servant and a real MPR stalwart. Well done to all his owners.
