A 'Glorious' Win
WINNER 56 OF 2021: MAGICAL WISH, trained by Richard Hannon and ridden by Pat Dobbs: 'The World Pool Handicap ' over 7f at Glorious Goodwood.
Let's begin with the fact that it is super to have runners at the Qatar 'Glorious Goodwood' meeting once again, as owners are able to take in the superb lunch hospitality and put on their best summer attire. We were fortunate to have won at the competitive meeting both last year, with VENTURA DIAMOND and in 2019 with TIMOSHESKO.
Magical Wish was 2nd in the same race last year and in fact 2nd again a month later back over course and distance - the only concern was that the ground wasn't ideal. He broke into midfield and you could see his usual low head carriage, going okay. As the race pace started to lift, Pat shook him up 2f out and he moved to be more prominent. He steadily made progress inside the final furlong, keeping on strongly to lead in the final strides and yes, tried to take a chunk of a cheek piece of a rival on the way....
"He had time to take a nibble out of a rival, that's how laid back he was!" Watch the full race replay here: https://www.racingtv.com/videos/watch/horse_racing_replays/342889-world-pool-handicap-3
Timeform awarded him with a rating of 102, saying: "Goes well at this track, runner-up here twice last year including in this race to a well-treated 3-y-o, and with nothing of that calibre in here, bounced back to form to make the most of a drop in the weights; mid-field, pushed along over 2f out, headway 1f out, tried to bite rival inside final 100 yds, led close home.”
Pat said in his Racing TV interview: "We got pushed to the middle of the track, but he has relaxed now in his races, as he used to be keen. He saves a bit for himself but he is very tough.”
Syndicate manager Tim says: "Congratulationsto his owners on his fifth career win and we are delighted that he can win on the big stage, where he has been unlucky a couple of times. I will have to tell Richard to feed him more though, as he was clearly peckish on the way to the line!”
