'A Classic Operation'
A runner-up spot in the 2025 Epsom Derby with Lazy Griff has rather whetted the “Classic” appetite at MPR HQ & amongst MPR owners. Whilst not being hell-bent on each and every yearling purchase attempting to tick the Classic box, we’re alert to opportunities.
He joins Michael Bell, trainer of Epsom Derby winner Motivator and Epsom Oaks winner Sariska
This fabulous colt, bred in the purple, his dam has already produced the 2021 2000 Guineas winner POETIC FLARE, is likely to be our next best opportunity to dine at the Classic table, adding to Lazy Griff and Ventura Storm’s (2nd 2016 St Leger) silver medals.
By the fantastic, upwardly mobile Coolmore stallion, ST MARK’S BASILICA - a Dewhurst, French 2000 Guineas & French Derby winner himself - he’s already the sire of Diamond Necklace, Thesecretadversary & Venetian Prince to name but three.
He’s a very good size physically, with a super, fluid movement who stands over and covers plenty of ground in his slower paces & it’s fair to assume something similar is the case in his faster ones too.
Progressive Profile - He’s most definitely not an April or May 2027 whizz-banger debutant; he’s a second half of the season 2yo for next year, and it’s fair to say that you’d imagine his busiest and best season would prove to be his 3yo career - & if good enough, we could opt to keep him on as a 4yo etc - that’d be a syndicate members' decision.
At 52,000 gns, he could prove an absolute steal.
