We purchased 'Howzer' at the Goffs Premier Yearling Sale. He is by REQUINTO, a sire who now stands in Italy.
Howzer Black has a super page; being out of a winner producing mare who hails from a family packed with Group performers. Generally speaking, at Middleham Park, we buy the very best pedigree that we can afford. It stands to reason that the stronger the genes the faster a horse can run, just so long as the horse in question can withstand training. There's a saying in racing that "you can't train paper," alluding to the fact that an unsound individual with a strong pedigree on paper, won't withstand training. So, it's always a balance of pedigree versus confirmation unless you have the sort of money that Coolmore and Godolphin possess, in which case you can afford both!
Racing Update: He’s become a real legend at MPR. Loves to front run and runs every 10 days. The first rule of engagement with Howzer is not to use the whip. He resents it. He’ll give his all, without resorting to the persuader and it’s probably this that means we can turn him out every 10 or 14 days or so. There’s something especially exciting about a bold, front runner and Howzer’s owners are some if the luckiest owners there are. If you want to join them, there’s a small, 2.5% available. TIMEFORM RATED: 99.
