The same sire, the same attractive chestnut coat and the same trainer, as our Classic runner, The Rosstafarian!

Purchased at the Goffs Breeze Up Sale, this colt is by the Coolmore Stallion STARSPANGLEDBANNER: https://coolmore.com/farms/ireland/stallions/starspangledbanner

  • European Champion Sprinter
  • The best son of Choisir and closely related to multiple Group 1 winners Haradasun and Elvstroem
  • Won the Group 1 Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot just like his sire Choisir
  • Won the Group 1 July Cup at Newmarket like leading sire Oasis Dream
  • Won the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate just like the exceptional sire Fastnet Rock
  • Won the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas in a faster time than the proven sires Redoute’s Choice & Lonhro
  • Yearlings in 2020 sold for 360,000gns, 200,000gns, £170,000, 170,000gns, 140,000gns, £130,000, 130,000gns, €125,000, 125,000gns etc
  • Thought this was a nice quote from the Coolmore website - ‘Speed, Power, Class & Good Looks!’

Here’s the opportunity, hopefully, to own a racehorse that has the potential to compete at the highest level, if Hugo’s record with the progeny of the sire is anything to go by, most notably Home Of The Brave; the 116 rated winner of £494,000 in prize money when trained by Hugo.

We’ve had plenty of success over the years with progeny of the great Starspangledbanner, most notably, The Rosstafarian, who was placed at black type level for us and also ran in the Group 2 Craven Stakes and Irish 2000 Guineas in 2021. He was recently sold, at the end of his GB career, to Hong Kong, for a very hefty, arguably, life changing sum for his lucky owners.

Hugo Palmer has very quickly established himself alongside Newmarket’s elite trainers, having being catapulted there, by horses such as the Classic winning GALILEO GOLD, GIFTED MASTER, KOROPICK, MOOTASADIR, NEVER BACK DOWN, ESCOBAR and of course, the above mentioned HOME OF THE BRAVE.

We’ve had to dig quite deep to secure this fabulous colt, at £78,000 (before commissions, vets etc). However, we’re led to believe, by his Breeze Ups consignors, Roger Marley and John Cullinan, who we know very well, that he is a colt who possesses the utmost potential. Roger and John are pretty much the best in the business, having only recently consigned both MEHMAS and YOUBETTERBELIEVEIT, no less.

Here's his walk and profile video:

He comes highly recommended and we were very much attracted by the fact that he breezed much much quicker than a horse with his pedigree should have. He timed the 10th quickest over the 2.3f Doncaster breeze from a cohort of over 150 horses. Given the majority were by speedy sires like Kodiac, Mehmas, Cotai Glory, Kingman etc, and that our colt is out of a middle-distance family (his dam is by New Approach), his performance is particularly meritorious. His sectional finishing positions through the breeze were 23rd in furlong 1, 3rd in furlong 2 and 2nd in the final third of a furlong of the breeze, averaging out in 10th place, against many Sprint bred individuals, lest we forget. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist, or brain surgeon, to realise that he’s just getting into his stride and finishing off more strongly than his contemporaries, as his finishing positions each furlong, just improve and improve.

Watch his breeze here:

Rather like The Rosstafarian, he’s one for 7f plus type for the latter part of the season. Furthermore, he’s destined, on looks and pedigree, to just improve and improve through his career, hopefully progressing to have Classic entries, like Hugo’s previous Starspangledbanner progeny.

The sky’s the limit for the hugely exciting, and mightily imposing, individual. He has a wonderful stride and attitude on him in his breeze and we can’t wait to see him strut his stuff on the track. His above mentioned relative and lookalike, The Rosstafarian, also by the same sire, has given him something to aspire to!
