Purchased from the Arqana Deauville Select Sale, this colt is by a sire who needs no introduction, in DARK ANGEL: http://yeomanstown.ie/dark-angel/
Dark Angel has firmly established himself at a sire who can produce absolutely top-class racehorses; Battaash, Harry Angel, Mecca’s Angel, Gutaifan, Lethal Force to name but a few. He’s even proving himself a very decent sire of sires should any of his progeny turn out sufficiently talented on the track. Furthermore, the stallion phenomenon GALILEO, who needs no introduction in that sphere, is, as his female progeny are becoming of a certain age, proving to be a sensational broodmare sire too. That really ought to be of little surprise, in actuality. So, imagine how thrilled we are, to have been able to secure, from Arqana, France’s Premier Yearling sale, this fabulously elegant son of DARK ANGEL, from the GALILEO mare PANDORA’S BOX. He’s only the 2nd foal from the mare, with the 1st foal being a 2yo currently, having cost 270,000gns just under a year ago. We’ll follow his career with great interest, when he hits the track, to give us a slight line into what Pandora’s Box, may have in store for us.
This colt hails from a family of 32 black type horses and Pandora’s Box, herself, was an unraced, full sister to the Group 1 placed, winning 2yo, ROBIN HOOD, who also placed at Group 2 level as a 2yo in the Beresford Stakes in Ireland. Our colt is quite regally bred and both in genes and looks, appears a 2nd half of the season 2yo for 2021 and who’ll shape up into a miler in time as a 3yo. His frame and his pedigree suggest his best years should be his 3yo and 4yo careers.
He looks cherry ripe for Hugo to prepare and build to a crescendo in his 3yo season, as he most certainly did with GALILEO GOLD, GIFTED MASTER, MOOTASADIR, KOROPICK, MENGLI KHAN and many many others, in Hugo’s relatively short career. If this colt turned out to be a 2000 Guineas horse, though, for 2022, you wouldn’t be flabbergasted.
We’ve been attending the Arqana Sales for a number of years and Haras des Capucines are one of the very best breeders and consignors at the sale. They prepare and present their horses to a very high standard. Their yearlings always gleam in their coats and move fantastically well, you can tell they’ve been very well cared for from birth to sale. Unfortunately for most consignors, this sale’s results this year have been considerably down on previous years, we feel we’ve almost stolen this colt for €85,000; we feel sure he’d have made double that, in last year’s climate; however, we are where we are!
This colt is the most fabulous mover you could wish to see with a super, elegant manner about him, every inch, a classy individual:
Ordinarily, we wouldn’t be able to afford him from this sale, but in these strange times, we’ve just managed to pinch him. He passed the vet and stringent inspections with flying colours - something that is important for us with every yearling we have purchased.
He has begun preparations for his racing career, which will hopefully prove to be a rather stellar one, with his sensational pedigree and stunning looks coming to the fore, and a high-class Newmarket trainer at the helm.
Training update (9th November):
His pre training is going well "he is an absolute dream to deal with."
He is hack cantering on a daily basis and doing that well - apparently all he wants to do is sleep, eat and go about his work! His education will continue through to Christmas, then he'll have a little break and step up again in the new year. We had similar feedback this time last year, about our exciting Irish 2,000 Guineas entered colt The Rosstafarian, so this is a good sign!
