From the Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze Up Sale, this filly is by 2-Y-O sire of the moment, in HAVANA GREY. He is the new first season sire sensation of 2022, based at Whitsbury Manor, which is also the home of SHOWCASING, so it probably shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.
We have been looking to expand MPR Ireland and Eddie & Patrick Harty come highly recommend by ace bloodstock agent Ross Doyle. They’re both particularly personable and very shrewd trainers indeed. They train on the Curragh, around 30 minutes from Dublin, where facilities are World class. We can’t wait to have our first runner with them.
Havana Grey is currently on course to be the most prolific first season sire in history, although it remains early days. At MPR, we can’t get enough of Havana Grey's, we’ve 6 of his 2yo’s in total. 3, we purchased as yearlings and they’re now ALL winners on the track: MAYLANDSEA (also a superb 2nd in the Queen Mary), EDDIE'S BOY (also a very nice 3rd in the Windsor Castle) CUBAN MISTRESS, also 2nd in a Conditions Stakes.
We had 4 horses on our Goresbridge wish list after we’d viewed the breezes and checked the horses out back at the stables. This filly was our nap of them, our nap of the sale therefore. She clocked the 2nd fastest time for a filly in the sale, finishing in 3rd overall, a colt topping the times. Probably this alone, entitled her to be right up there on our wish list, but add the Havana Grey factor, which could take us anywhere, and she headed herself to the top of our charts.
Watch her breeze here:
Furthermore, we’re pretty convinced that, were they to ask all 200 horses to breeze again, it’d be perfectly feasible that she'd top the times. Her breeze was far from perfect, she was green under initial pressure, clearly still learning the job. She wandered slightly to her right, towards the centre of the track, where we believe the slower ground was, so in not keeping a straight line, she’s covered not only an extra distance of ground, compared with the other fast timers, but being away from the golden highway, that was primarily utilised, nearer to the stands’ rail, she’s been disadvantaged too.
Here she is walking:
Racing Update (4th April): Already a winning, Group 3 placed 2yo last season, she’s had a small wind procedure which will hopefully bring out significant improvements (e.g., she just wasn’t quite finishing her races off in the final 100 yards). We’ve several future black type races in mind for her. She’s quite an asset currently and she’ll always maintain considerable paddock value once her racing days are complete. She’s a sprinter, through and through, and is likely to race both sides of the Irish Sea. Another exciting season beckons. Her race entries/declarations will show on this page. Timeform rated: 95
