Waarif and Conor McGovern win for the fourth time together!
What a star Waarif is for his owners! He has turned out to be a great buy from the Tattersalls H-I-T sale, as we paid £23k for him rated 82. He and apprentice jockey Conor McGovern got their fourth win together at Ayr on Saturday in the £30k Class 2 handicap for David O'Meara and they even got a police escort into the winner’s enclosure! It was lovely to see the happy scenes on ITV Racing. See his interview with Rishi Persad here.
He coped with the ground admirably and it was another very accomplished ride from Conor. He showed his battling qualities and will to win when Fire Brigade came to him in the final furlong and was going away again at the end. We expect the handicapper will have him rated around 101 on Tuesday morning. He gets a 4lb penalty for the Cambridgeshire on Saturday, so he’ll be in that off a rating of 99 which will guarantee him a run. There’s a confirmation stage on Monday which will thin the field out a bit will give an indication of his likely opponents there.
We're proud to come away from the highly competitive (and heavy going!) Ayr Western meeting with 2 winners: Saryshagann, also from the David O'Meara yard winning on Thursday. Well done to both sets of owners.
We ended the week with £32,370 of prize money won for owners. This makes our race prize money total for the year at £1,170,782.00 (already higher than the whole of 2017!)
