Group 3 Glory for Brave Emperor

Sat 29 Apr 2023

WINNER 27 OF 2023: BRAVE EMPEROR, trained by Archie Watson and ridden by Luke Morris: The GROUP 3 'Grosser Preis der Wohnstatte Krefeld - Dr Busch Memorial ' over 1m 1/2f (1700m) at Krefeld, Germany.

He takes his travelling well, after winning a Listed race at Cagnes-Sur-Mer in February and this trip to Germany, saw him return to the turf for the first time in almost 12 months. Luke flew over to ride, as he has won on him 3 times and was keen to take the ride, up in class here, to a Group 3.

Chalked up as favourite, he had to wait in the stalls for longer than ideal, as a couple were playing up. But as the gates opened, from stall 1, Luke wanted to get to the front and he did so nicely. Leading the field on the inner, one by one, horses started to come off the bridle in behind. Luke asked him to quicken 2f out and he responded well and with Luke being able to take a look behind, he was kicked clear over and eased towards the finish, winning by 2 and a 1/2 lengths.

Timeform rated it as a career best 104 performance, saying: "Back on turf for the first time in nearly 12 months, made the most of a good opportunity to get back to winning ways, not really needing to advance his form any further; made all, ridden under 2f out, kept on well..”

Luke said in his 'Wettstar' TV interview: "He's a very good horse and is likely to be campaigned in France and Germany a lot this season. He enjoyed it here today, this is my first visit and it's a beautiful track. I was very confident of a big run and I am very pleased, he's a smart horse.”

Syndicate manager Tom says: "He showed his class there and we are all delighted. The coverage was super and our 6 owners who travelled over were given champagne almost immediately he was pulled up! A real celebration with the National Anthem played and the Union Jack raised! He continues on the up and is an exciting horse to have running in our silks. Tough and talented. I will sit down with Archie and decide on where he goes next. Well done to his whole syndicate, Archie and his team.

Not a bad 4 months this year for us at higher levels; winning a Grade 2, a Group 3 and two Listed races - as well as taking 2nd in the Grade 1 Liverpool Hurdle. With the Guineas meeting next week, as well as the Guineas Breeze Up sale, where last year, we purchased our Group 1 winner The Platinum Queen - the excitement continues!"
