David O'Meara Stable Tour

Fri 17 Apr 2020

All week, Sporting Life have been publishing a series of stable tours in their 'Our Friends In The North' series.

Yesterday, Tim Easterby said about Copper Knight, one of our two horses in training with him: "He’s been great over the years for us and is back for another season. He won twice at York last season including a Listed race and has been a real star."

Today, it's the turn of David O'Meara and we are thrilled that he picked four of our horses to talk about! The horses are still in work and David is able to assess how they have come through the winter and shares some thoughts about his string and potential targets, once we can get racing safely again. Here's who he selected and what he says:

BLONDE WARRIOR - "He’s come to the yard having previously been with Hugo Palmer. I think he’s quite classy and could be well enough handicapped."

We purchased him at the Tattersalls Autumn HIT sale and can't wait to see him race in our silks!

COLD STARE - "He’s very ground dependant. He is very, very good when the ground is bottomless, bordering on unraceable. He likes Haydock where he does well and we’ll look at the big sprints for him including the Ayr Gold Cup."

With a Timeform rating of 102 - he is a horse for the big races. He was captured by David, enjoying himself after his morning exercise yesterday!

KING OF TONGA - "He did really well and won at Newmarket last season on heavy ground which surprised me as I wasn’t sure that he would act on that ground. He’s done well over the winter and looks well."

Another of our HIT purchases, he is a tough and genuine son of the fabulous Dark Angel. A last time out Newmarket winner and now has a Timeform rating of 103. He’s just the perfect horse for those big 7f Ascot handicaps, that carry huge prize money pots. He’s a top-class handicapper and given he’s still only a 4yo, he’s open to significant improvement. The last few shares remain in him! See his page here.

WAARIF - "Is a really tough horse who invariably gives his running. He surprised me running so well in the Balmoral last season as I think he prefers running around a bend. He’s very versatile and always pays his way each season."

He really is a stable and MPR stalwart, who doesn’t know how to run a bad race. He has won 7 races for his lucky owners, since we purchased him, again as an HIT. He just loves the Ayr Western meeting in September, having won back to back Class 2 1-mile races there in the last two years, but he also usually wins before then too!
