WINNER 40 OF 2023: FIERCE WARRIOR, trained by Nicky Henderson OBE and ridden by Nico de Boinville: The 'Visit Dr Newland's New Website richardnewlandracing.com Open Maiden NH Flat Race' over 2m at Worcester.
A 4 year old gelding, by Sholokhov; he was having his second start here at Worcester. Nico had him steadied into midfield and by the time they were approaching the last mile, he had moved smoothly to dispute 2nd. Coming into the home straight, the favourite went for home, with Fierce Warrior chasing him down. Taking the lead before the 1f marker, he was ridden out to win by an impressive 3 and a 1/4 lengths.

Timeform rated it as an 85 performance, saying: "Left debut form behind as he got off the mark, experience probably crucial on the day, coping better with the emphasis on speed this time; chased leaders, raced freely, ridden over 2f out, led approaching final 1f, kept on.”

Our National Hunt manager Tom, says: "Congratulations to his owners on his fine victory. Nico gave him a great ride, making all the right moves at the right time. He said that he gave him a great feel and when I spoke to Nicky after the race he said he was delighted with him. There was still a little greeness as he pricked his ears heading towards the finishing line, but he went past so easily and will have learnt plenty more about the game. He will head off for his summer break with Marie's Rock and we look forward to seeing him over obstacles, as he is a fine stamp of a horse."
