A Saturday winner calls for a Sweet Celebration!

Sun 07 Jun 2020

SWEET CELEBRATION, trained by Marco Botti and ridden by Ben Curtis, at Newcastle, is winner 18 of the year.

It was another super performance from the filly yesterday and a great training performance by Marco, as it was her first start this year. From her 11 career starts, she has finished in the top 3 - such a likeable and consistent filly for her owners!

Her syndicate manager Tom Denham says "If you didn't know the result and had just read a review of how the race developed, you would have feared the worst! She won despite the slow pace that had been set, beating a horse she was giving a stone to in second. A few struggled to settle in behind, but Sweet Celebration switched off like a dream. Ben Curtis did brilliantly, I don’t think we could have placed her in a better position if we had tried. I think the difference between winning or coming second in the race was how early Ben made the move, she was one of the first off the bridle."

Back up in trip we could see her improve again. We will see what the handicapper does with her now and what races become available in the near future but her owners are sure to have more fun with her this season. Well done to them all!

2nd for Copper Knight at Newmarket in the Class 2 5f Sprint:

We also saw yet another VERY close photo finish, when COPPER KNIGHT having his first start of the year, ran a stormer off top weight at HQ. Rachel Richardson had him up there in the 5f sprint and we were shouting him home as he led coming into the final 1/2 furlong, only to be pipped by a fast finisher. After Yousini getting pipped on the line 6 days ago, that's two photo finishes that have not gone our way, however Tim Easterby was delighted with his run, saying this morning "Copper Knight is sound and well today, ran a cracker."

3rd for Red Bond at Newcastle in the Class 2 7f:

There was also a great run in 3rd from RED BOND, back at Newcastle after his 13lb hike in the weights after his 8 length win at the track! The top three pulled nicely clear of the 4th horse and it shows he can be competitive of this higher mark. Another horse giving his owners some fun, with his last 6 race results reading 1123-13. We will see what mark he gets next, but it would be nice to get him in at Royal Ascot.
