A 'Newmarket Double' at Wolves takes us to 4 winners this year.

Thu 16 Jan 2020

Two winners from two runners at Wolverhampton yesterday, gave plenty of screen time on Sky Sports Racing!

LONGSIDER (David Lanigan) ridden by Shane Kelly in the 1m 1/2f Novice Stakes:

Having his second career start, we were concerned that he had the outside stall to break from, but a very sensible ride by Shane, had us soon forgetting all about stall 10! He started well and was settled midfield on the outside. Shane didn't panic and as he was travelling so well, made a move to the head of the field in the back straight to dispute the lead. Moving nicely, as others began to come off the bridle, Shane asked him to quicken around the bend and he moved away from the field 2f out and under hands and heels, he ran on well to win by 5 lengths. Still showing greenness in the straight as he edged right, his big white face coasted across the line!

Syndicate manager Tom Palin says: "It was a very impressive last furlong when he was asked to change gear and he will get further in time in line with his breeding, being by Ruler Of The World. He is clearly a talented colt and has received some press attention this morning (see the gallery.) Myself and David will look for a suitable race now for his third start. His owners were ecstatic with that yesterday and it was so lovely that most of them were able to be there to enjoy the moments and the champagne too of course! Timeform have given him a 90p rating - we have some very nice horses at the moment!"

BATCHELOR BOY (Marco Botti) ridden by Daniel Muscutt in the 6f Class 5 Handicap:

Having his first start in a handicap, after his win over C&D win in December, Batchelor Boy and Dan Muscutt were reunited and were at the top of the betting. He started well and strode into the lead, but was very keen. Dan managed to get him some cover as another horse took to the front and this helped him settle to track the leaders. Coming into the straight, Dan had to angle the big striding son of Footstepsinthesand through a gap and he went on to lead inside the the final furlong, just holding on from a fast finisher on the outside.

Timeform have rated this as a career best performance; with a rating of 83+ which means he is 'open to further improvement.'

Well done to both sets of winning owners and thank you to David and Marco. It is great to have 4 winners on the board and we have a 33% strike rate of horses to finish in the top 2 from our 2020 runners so far!
