A Divine Saturday Experience!
It is often said that being a racehorse owner is all about 'the experience'; the feelings, the thrill, the excitement, the prestige of being in the paddock, especially on big race days and if you are lucky enough, seeing your horse win.
Yesterday at Ascot had all of the above, as when Divine Spear put in that huge jump at the last hurdle in the lead we were all shouting him home. Sarah was screaming "come on Divine" with a camera in her face, thinking, "oh no, please don't show me swearing on ITV 4 if he wins!" He ran such a cracker, just being done for finishing speed in the final furlong, but both horses pulling nearly 4 lengths away from the 3rd horse. When he returned to the winners enclosure, his owners and their guests were thrilled with his run and as you can see from the photograph, honoured to be part of 'the experience'.
As we then watched Cue Card steal more hearts with his win, we spent the rest of the afternoon in the eponymous Ascot Owners & Trainers bar, coming down from the high of all the aforementioned feelings!
We also discussed what a season our Seven Barrows string are having: Of the 12 runners this year, 8 have been in the top 3, with 4 winning!
We're on 9 winners so far this year in total, which is ahead of this time last year, so all bodes well.....
