"It has been a pleasure to train for Middleham Park Racing which must be one of the most successful and professionally run syndicates in British racing. The dedication to and knowledge of both Flat and National Hunt Racing is second-to-none and, with so many lovely people involved and a huge number of very talented horses, it is easy to see why they are so successful!"
Nicky Henderson, Champion Trainer 2016/17

"Ownership of a National Hunt horse was a personal dream and I’ve enjoyed runners at top venues and race-days, including the Cheltenham Festival, Ascot and Sandown."
It was at the 2013 Tattersalls Ireland ‘Derby sale’ when we embarked on our National Hunt Racing adventure with Nicky Henderson. It was here that Tom, our Bloodstock and National Hunt manager acquired our first two store horses, in Premier Bond (pictured right) and Towering.
We are now really seeing the fruits of our labours; with Towering winning at Cheltenham (not bad for his price tag of €22k) and Premier Bond winning in all three disciplines; Bumper, Hurdles and Steeple-chasing, which is of course what he was bought for. With him taking 3rd in the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival this year, you can see why it was such an emotional moment for Tom and ‘Premier’s’ owners.
The following year we bought Divine Spear from the same sale and he too has gone on to win both his Bumper (on debut) and over hurdles (see the photo above!) He isn’t the smallest individual in the world and being a half-brother to a Grade 1 winning chaser, it’s no surprise that he too is being primed for a season novice chasing!
It’s terribly exciting to have these horses already competing in, or being on course for a discipline that they not only should be as good as over, but are likely to significantly improve for the different jumping test.
We couldn’t be more excited about all four of our bumper horses from this season too, all serious horses for whom the world is now their oyster. Our next horse to debut will be the breath-taking 4 year old Du Destin. The French bred horses tend to have a greater emphasis on precocity and come to hand at an earlier than their Irish cousins, so we are very excited about seeing him making his debut for us and Seven Barrows.
Now with Cheltenham Festival winning trainers Jessica Harrington, Warren Greatrex, Alan King, Ben Pauling and David Pipe training jumps horses for us, we have been able to offer more opportunities for ownership of top quality horses within this sphere. Having ‘dual purpose’ trainers such as Keith Dalgleish, Gordon Elliott and Ben Haslam also training for us is another excellent advantage! The 2016/17 season was our best yet, with six winners and we are so delighted to be associated with the Seven Barrows team; Nicky being crowned Champion Trainer for the fourth time.
Tom bought our first 2017 recruit to the jumps team, a simply stunning son of Malinas, at the Goffs UK Spring sale and he has gone into training with Champion trainer Nicky Henderson. He also attended the Tattersalls Ireland Derby sale in June and came away with two super new geldings. They are by Getaway (Jessica Harrington) and Special Kaldoun (Nicky Henderson). With a 69% win and place strike rate from our existing Derby sale graduates last season, it's a formula that clearly works!
